Popular Post Puros Y Vino Posted July 8, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 8, 2021 A little FB marketplace purchase. Vintage Dunhill leather cigar case. Not sure about lineage. This was made in Spain. Got it real cheap, so I won't complain too much. Circa 1960's apparently. The Dunhill logo is only on the lower piece. I wonder if it ever was on top (which makes sense) and just eroded over time? Looks like it was made for smaller RG's. 42 or less. Can any Dunhill fans shed some light? 5
El Presidente Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Nice pck up Frank Outside of a lighter, the three fingered leather cigar case is still the cigar accessory I use most often. There is a simple tactile joy to the feel of sliding the case into the inside pocket of your jacket .......just before you walk out the door. 3
RDB Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Yes a lovely piece. Really well made. I have two recent Dunhill white spot cases very like this, one for Churchill / DC sizes and one for Robusto / Corona Gorda sizes, and I love them. Nice to think they should still be good in 50 years’ time. 1
Popular Post Ryan Posted July 8, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 8, 2021 It's a well made case. You can see that only one side has a seam, so each half of the case, top and bottom, is made of a single piece of leather. Very few cases made before 20-30 years ago were made for cigars 50 rg or larger. 42 rg or around that would have been the most common. Most of the "Made in Spain" cases are made in Ubrique in Andalucia. I was there about 4 years ago meeting some of the factory owners. There is a long tradition of leather in the town. The leather is imported from Morocco and worked in the little factories on the outskirts of the town. The main street is mostly leather shops. The better cases, the ones I made sure to get while I was there, have calf-skin on the outside with a lamb-skin lining. Very soft and smooth with nothing to catch or tear a cigar wrapper. A few of the London cigars shops still have their bespoke cases made there. The shop-name is applied there too. 7 1
Puros Y Vino Posted July 9, 2021 Author Posted July 9, 2021 Thanks @Ryan for the details. In your experience, was the Dunhill logo ever on the top/outer shell? I find it odd that it's not on this one and I can only surmise it's worn off.

I can’t remember specifically about the Dunhill ones but I can never remember seeing a company logo and the “Made in Spain” stamp on both sections of a case like that. Only one or the other, and usually the outer sleeve. Somebody else might have seen different though. 1
