Habana Mike Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Turns out if you don't test for nicotine in the blood test, and don't die from tobacco related disease in the first few years, you're fine with any policy. At least that's how it was when I purchased mine. Plus my employer provides a life insurance policy for 3x wages so I am well covered. Probably going to drop the term life plan now that I'm of an age and don't need worry about income replacement.
Duxnutz Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 Here’s an interesting life insurance tidbit from my recent foray into obtaining it. I did the blood test and then at underwriting the first company wouldn’t cover anyone with travel plans to Japan or Australia due their COVID 19 policies!!! Crazy. 1
Çnote Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 So, I have a TX license, consider this one expert's opinion. There are two types of policy from an underwriting point of view. One where you would be tested, and one where you just check the box. I primarily dealt with the 2nd option, where if you happened to later pass of something that was obviously smoking related, the policy would pay out as if you had paid the premiums for a smoker, which is going to be less than face value, as smoking is contestable, just like a misstated age or gender, at least in TX. Every state may have something different, NC for example is very generous to the consumer. @Habana Mike is correct, if you 'pass' the nicotine screen, claim not to smoke at all and only smoke cigars to a ripe old age, the policy should pay face value. Contestablity in TX is two years, that's pretty standard state to state. I have a great chum who when purchasing insurance via his employer stated repeatedly he had cancer. The assigned agent wanted a high % of employees to sign up, so pushed the forms through regardless. He is now covered because medical conditions are not contestable. Light a big one for him as it's not going great. 1
