Yeah, that was about as much as I get get out of this one before it gave in.  Kiss my ash.

These are just on 4 years now, and I've managed to save a handful of them to try to reach that mythical promised land of caramel.  They've been good even young, so it ain't easy, but I am definitely starting to get that richness that wasn't there so much earlier.  I find the flavor of caramel is strong with these more than the sweetness of caramel, if that makes any sense.  A depth and earthy cane note, with a smoothness and elegance that's hard to match in a cigar this size.

As to the importance of ash, TBH I've never placed as much focus on it as some.  Smoke it till it falls off, unless I'm having been issues in which case sometimes a little "tip and touch-up" can do the job.

I 100% agree with you on the richness. I’m almost 2/3rds done with a sep 17 cab that’s really gained that richness over the past 6 months. Glad I have another untouched one from 2017!

Nice review. I have a FEB 20 cab which has 48 left in it, I sampled two in order to see how they are when young. I have to agree that even young they aren't bad! Enjoyable. Not very strong/harsh, relatively smooth. They're not amazing of course, they could use some age. And that's exactly what they'll get. Hoping for some richness, caramel, smoothness, creaminess, complexity. Something along those lines (I'm not expecting miracles! Just cautiously optimistic).
