Popular Post Babalouie
I picked this fiver up, along with the Partagas Eminentes withe red top in the back, about 10 years ago. Original thinking was to have one around my birthday as they are about as old as I am, but like most things I forget or move on cause I don’t find the time. Yesterday was a beaut of a day in the northeast and just didn’t have a reason not to pull it out. The cigar itself is rough looking, which is a good thing to me. The ugly duckling has so much more to offer me type of thing, and not surprising for a machine made cigar. Cello is nice and brown, with the veins that have been in constant contact a darker shade of brown. Showing that these has some good essence to them when first rolled. The NC forums I have been apart of there is always a cello or no cello thread popping up. I’m a big fan of keeping cello on, and this cigar is just another example why. Cold draw has a special kinda sweetness to it. The closest comparison, is the earthy, raisiny sweetness I’ve gotten from Opus Xs only softer. A really lovely flavor. First third is dry, light wood. Sweetness is still there, but more on the lips. Almost like its has a sugar tip to it without the sugar if that makes sense. Creamy, billowing smoke is plentiful. Second third has everything from the first but now some baking spice starts to come through. In addition a little spice is hitting the back of my palate. Its not peppery like a nicaraguan, but the tickle is definitely there. Also getting a pleasant little tingle on the lips. A very enjoyable cigar so far. Last third begins to get a little grubby, spice picks up on the palate. Almost like a cinnamon feel, but not, just the tingle one experiences, maybe more of a nutmeg tingle. Baking spice combo that I cant quite put my finger on. Still a enjoyable cigar that I took down to the nub. Overall 9.5/10.... meh 9.879/10. It was a good cigar, albeit too short. I haven’t tried any of the Capitols reboot that have been released, so I dont have a comparison, but I can’t imagine them being anything near as good as this. Even with it being a machine made cigar, it had what I always think of when I hear people say Cubanesque tobacco. Something that we just wont see in the same manner with all the newer disease and mold resistant strains of tobacco being produced.
NSXCIGAR
Call me crazy but I actually prefer the look of the old tins.
