Popular Post maverickdrinker
I remember when the Habanos Anejados line came out. I was skeptical about the release as most cigar collectors like to age their cigars themselves to ensure the provenance is too notch. What made me interested were there were a few unique vitolas made for each marca. Montecristo in a Churchill format. Yes, please. I bought a few of these in Cuba, with the intent of buying more if I liked them. You can find the review here. Unfortunately, I didn’t follow through and are only left with a precious few. No time like the present to fire one up. The wrapper is a leathered, chestnut hue. Smooth to the touch. Construction is a little soft. A little more spongier than I like. Hope this doesn’t lead to burn issues. Will cut a smaller hole to see if this balances things out. The triple cap looks decent and the foot is packed. Aromas of barnyard, hazelnut, cream, cocoa with touches of vanilla bean and earth emanate from the wrapper. A quick twist from my Siglo multi punch and we are ready to roll. The draw is open. Big airflow with no resistance. A little better than a wind tunnel. Concern grows about the burn. Will see how this goes... First ThirdLove this flavour profile. Cream, vanilla bean, earth, leather and cocoa form the core flavour profile. That Cuban twang comes out in spades. Strength is at a medium bodied level. A delicious start. The retrohale is lush and vibrant. Beautiful layers of cocoa, leather, earth and cream move luxuriously through the nasal passages. The after finish is rich and expansive. Cocoa, leather, earth and cream, followed by vanilla bean, Cuban twang and touches of floral notes. Wonderfully balanced between strength and flavour. No harshness to speak of. Pure flavour as it dances on the palate. This is going to be good... Second ThirdI keep thinking to myself: ‘why did I not buy more of these when they first came out?’ Gorgeous layers of cocoa, cream, earth, leather and vanilla bean move seamlessly through the nasal passages. The after finish is so inviting. Cocoa, leather, earth, cream, vanilla notes and Cuban twang, with touches of floral notes and oolong tea. Lush and ethereal on the palate. Strength level allows the flavours to majestically dance on the palate. This is smoking so well... Final ThirdThis is singing right now. Beautiful layers of cocoa, earth, leather and vanilla bean move effortlessly through the nasal passages. The after finish is intoxicating. Cocoa, leather, earth and vanilla bean, followed by floral notes, oolong tea, Cuban twang and a touch of eucalyptus. Impressive how the flavour profile continues to revolve with each third. Beautiful complexity and nuance with great depth. The medium bodied strength level is perfect for this flavour profile. Why did I not buy more of these? Final ImpressionsThese are divine. Despite the loose construction, this performed perfectly. Wonderful complexity and nuance. Great balance between flavours and strength level. Good depth of flavours and interplay throughout the cigar. Would love to turn back time and grab a box or two of these. Worth the coin... maverickdrinker
Great review as always. The flavor profile sounds incredible!I was blown away on how good it was (for my palate at least). I went back to my original review after I wrote the updated review to compare. Was happy to see that the core flavours were there but new flavours have emerged after all these years. You can find the original review here: https://thedirtyashes.wordpress.com/2015/12/21/2014-montecristo-habanos-anejados-churchill/Hope it helpsSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
