Popular Post Ken Gargett Posted August 30, 2020 Popular Post Posted August 30, 2020 the old wine group, one of a couple with which i do lunches/tastings etc of varying nature and quality caught up yesterday. been tough with covid (although that is a first world problem given the number of people and families that this virus has killed and devastated, notwithstanding the weird beliefs of the flat earth non-believers). theme was grand cru vosne romanee. some cracking 2008 champers to start. i thought that the Dom was the wine of the day. the blind one was the Kutch Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardy 2017, a Santa Cruz wine which was pretty good. kicked off the serious stuff with a couple of echezeaux. loved the gros 09. next a couple of grands echezeaux. i thought the MM 2005 the best red of the day. the really good romanee-st-vivant up next. loved the 2013. then a series of the big guns - five terrific richebourg. i'm not a great fan of Laurent and this one was good, from a cracking vintage, but didn't change my mind. loved the Ligier-Belair. also loved the 2012 MM and the 09 Hudelot-Noellat. finally, a decent sweetie. 13

Which restaurant and how was the food? at tartufo. terrific food. mine was the 09 Gros Ech. not one of the most illustrious of the line but drank beautifully (clearly been in a good cellar!!). exceeded some of its more renowned siblings, but not absolutely top.
