We finally figured out what the monolith symbolizes in “2001: A Space Odyssey “

1995 person: She’s a nurse who’s coming off an overnight shift. She’s so tired, she forgot to remove her hospital mask. She bought an ice cream with sprinkles to cheer herself up, but sneezed just as she was about to taste it, causing her mask to make contact with the ice cream, and all the sprinkles to stick to her mask. Fuzzy with fatigue, her first instinct is to check her eye makeup and she holds up her compact mirror.  But she’s also forgotten that she’s wearing sunglasses and the image seems confusingly dark to her.  In her befuddled state, she is slowly moving the compact closer to her face, while reflexively moving the ice cream away. She’s really very tired. 
 

And I’m really very bored with this lockdown.
