Popular Post RDB Posted April 26, 2020 Popular Post Posted April 26, 2020 So the Short Churchill... I associate this cigar with exotic travel, and specifically with the end of the somewhat gruelling journey from London to Kampala in Uganda. I used to arrive around 11pm, not ready to sleep, and wanting a beer and a smoke to relax in the balmy evening air. It always seems to be about 22C at midnight there. Minibar beer, deserted courtyard, and aaaahhh. This cigar seems to be in the not-particularly-loved category. It’s a duty free three-pack staple, and they make tons of them. They can be a bit facile, and quality is erratic. Light body. No kudos among the cogniscenti. But imagine RyJ didn’t exist, then this cigar was invented? Rose petals! Cherry drops! Middle Eastern spices! Sweet pot-pourri. We would go mad for it. This particular number is a bit too easy on the draw and is smoking super fast. No big deal. It doesn’t carry the weight of great expectations. Still a 1 on the binary scoring scale. (Child-made ginger biscuits and mellow Cognac: match made in lockdown heaven.) 14
MigsG Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 I remember my last Short Churchill well, even though it has been almost a year. Hot summer day. Iced coke in one hand, the cigar in the other. Roasted nuts and cherry was what I remember. Wonder why we most of us don't smoke them more?
BeerPimp Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Great review and memory. I just purchased some of these almost 2 months ago that were PSP/HQ on a 24:24. Just tried one and I will definitely be buying more.
