bill, you are in melbourne? give randalls a call. ask for randall if he is there and tell i told you to ring him. apols, don't have the number but won't be hard to find. tell him to find you some top northern rhones. he'll have some crackers. or just grab one of the top chapoutiers or cuillerons or guigals or chaves - heaps more.

Thanks Ken, I'll keep that in mind. Yep, in Melbourne. I have to watch the coins a bit in these uncertain times so an affordable bottle would be a good start. But from what I've gathered Northern Rhone needs a few years on it, bumping up the price?

 

This one was on Randall's site Ken and it's affordable. Might give it a try. Cheers

seriously though, give randall a yell and have a yack. he'll have stuff that you'll love (st-j is good but there are some way better appellations). nicest bloke you could meet. he is a geelong fan, though.

day 1 :(reality)   the last GR Cohiba + the isla del tesoro(Ken you were one of the reasons to look for it, finally I tracked a bottle in Greece for 350e, I hope it is worth the money!haven t opened it yet)

 

day 2(fantasy)   Cubatabaco  1992 humidor or an early 90s  cohiba, esplendido or an origianl behike 2006+  havana clum maximo rum(fantasy as well)

 

forgot the wines, I will mention Greek wines for day 1

 

so day 1, a great Santorini white ,Kavalieros 2016, followed by a 2007 Naoussa red Elinos

 

day 2 , (fantasy) a vintage Burgundy or a Chateau Lafite vintage as well

Have you had the herbal soda Moxie? Very similar taste. You're right on with your description. Citrus, herbs. High floral notes.

i have only ever tried the original one they made. not tried the revival. but all reports suggest it is pretty special. look forward to hearing.

Ken,  finally tasted the isla del tesoro, so....best nose of any rum I had so far, ethereal, complex  really out of this world...taste , nutty ,fruity, a great clear cane sugar after taste, a little less impressive than the nose ,so overall what  an  amazing spirit!

great to hear. i'd love to try the new version at some stage but i'm not holding my breath.
