Popular Post havanaclub Posted April 13, 2020 Popular Post Posted April 13, 2020 Haven’t had one in about a year so I decided to fire one up on Easter Sunday. The few that I have smoked were very good imo but did feel like they needed more time. Let’s see how this one goes. Used a straight cut and paired with some HC7. The draw was easy but not by much. Aroma at cold was a pungent barnyard with a touch of cedar. The wrapper was colorado maduro in shade and somewhat rough with some good oil content. It was very well packed. 1st: this had the classic EL cocoa notes right off the bat with a cedar and slight grassy background. Pepper on the retro. This leads me to believe they need to rest a while longer to smooth the retro out. 2nd: the strength really picked up towards the end of the second third, I don’t recall my first few I smoked being this strong. There was a very nice sweet hay, cedar note with some dark coffee notes. I can see with time, this should bring out a little more complexity to the cigar. 3rd: this talisman was burning like a champ with the ash holding almost 2 inches. It only required a very minor wrapper touch up in the last part of the third. More cocoa, black coffee with much more sweetness than I recall with my previous talismans that I smoked. Sweet grassy, with some earthiness and spice towards the end. A very enjoyable smoke that lasted over 2 hours easy. I would rate this a 94, but could see this reaching 96-97 plus with some more time down as I believe it will smooth out the cigar especially on the retro and give it some more complexity. ElJavi76 Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Gorgeous looking sheen to that cigar Brent. Great review. Glad you enjoyed it. I had one yesterday and unfortunately it underwhelmed me. Draw problems did me in. It never quite took off. I hit it with the PerfecDraw but to no avail. Great taste. Smoke production lower than expected. 1
Riverstyx Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 Thanks for this - I've been asking for an update on how these are doing. I'll probably wait awhile before trying another.
