Popular Post david9985 Posted March 22, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 22, 2020 This is the first smoked from the box which was purchased here and has been resting for six months. I have always felt the Reyes has distinctive tea flavours and so that – along with the fact it was a cold evening – is why I paired it with a flask of earl grey. It is a good-looking cigar with a smooth, thin wrapper. Aroma at cold is of milk chocolate. There is a large volume of smoke for the small size and it lights easily and burns well from the start. I have always placed a high value on how well a cigar burns and would be more than willing to make some sacrifice on flavour for a well-mannered burn. Throughout the first third it is immaculate. Flavours that I can pick out are tea, milk chocolate and mushroom. Very classy and smooth delivery. It occasionally hints at a sweetness which is enjoyable while it lasts but the return to the base flavours is also welcome. I am really enjoying the Trini. There is not a great deal of change to the profile but at times the flavours remind me of a Mag 50, albeit more subtle. At other times the sweetness that drifts in and out is reminiscent of a Sancho Panza Molino. As pleasant as this stick tastes, the quality of the burn is outstanding. When part of the wrapper gets a couple of millimetres behind, to see the fine burn line coming together from both sides to immediately even things out is a real treat. Smoking this has been no effort: no fighting a wonky burn or consciously thinking about having to draw regularly. It has been a cigar I can trust and relax with. In summary: 55min smoking time, flavours of tea, milk chocolate and mushroom, superb construction and burn 91/100 Thanks for reading! 11
rcarlson Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I enjoy these too. Can't say I ever got milk chocolate and mushroom, but maybe some variations of similar tastes. Definitely some refined earthiness.
david9985 Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 Tea is the core flavour I get. The milk chocolate aspect was most noticeable in the aroma at cold but I could detect the same taste while smoking. Mushroom... well that is harder to define! It was a hard flavour to pick out and when I tried to put a name to it I was struggling but.. mushroom was the only descriptor popping into my head.
old surf dog Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Thanks for the review. I have a box (RAG MAY 18) that I have been holding for a year and a half. I had one ROTT but it wasn't good. Tasted like grass, but not the good kind. Maybe its about time to have another one.
Bmbroads Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Interesting flavor notes. Big Reyes fan and most recent box is jul 2019. All spice, cream, touch of chocolate, a bit of toasted tobacco... enjoy the rest of the box- one of the best!
