Popular Post Hollywood Ninja Posted December 15, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 15, 2019 Cigar : H. Upmann Regalias (5-1/8 x 42) Specs : MEG MAR 17 (2yr 9mo), 6 weeks humidor rest @ 58% RH, single flame butane, smoking outside on the porch, 35F and foggy here in the Pacific Northwest. Disclaimer : Haven’t had much from this marca other than Half Coronas and Mag46s. New to CCs in general having only indulged in them for the past year or so. This is a partial box I purchased from a brother on another forum. Initial notes : Construction looks decent, soft box press and the expected bumps and bruises from an inexpensive Cuban. Draw is great. Initial puffs are smooth and mild and creamy. Aroma is OK and smoke volume is just OK as well. After the first inch, nuts and wood. Light mineral on the lips. 2nd third the roughness of this cigar starts to show up. Flavors seem a bit more jagged, less refined. The smoothness disappears and some and the woodiness picks up. I'm wondering if this vitola is just a little rough around the edges or maybe they like higher RH or just more age (2 years, 9 months). Final notes : Last third, body builds to a solid medium+, mild+ for strength. Some light leather peeks its head in, but still the overriding flavor is that crusty wood. The cigar overall felt pretty dry on the palate and the last inch or so some bitterness has arrived. That first inch I thought I had a real winner here. Maybe these just need a bit more age to tame those elbows. I’ll give one another shot in 6 months. I wonder how these compare to some of the other H. Upmann corona offerings, specifically the Majestic and Coronas Major. Smoke time : 60 minutes Score : Gonna give this a 7.5/10, but I think they’ll probably have at least a chance at 8.5/10 with some proper age. 7
Akela3rd Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Look out for Rob selling them at PSP grade - world of difference. I've had rough ones in the past but have a great JUL 19 box that I've just cracked open. So far the couple I've had have been very good indeed. Sent from 47171 Lempo 1
SCgarman Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 The Upmann PC was a fantastic cigar but unfortunately discontinued. Those Regalias seem to be made with lower grade tobacco, hence the low box price point and the rougher around the edges flavor notes. 1
MigsG Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 I bought a box of BRE '18s early this year. They have been smoking great with some rest. Good floral, cinnamon, baking spices, bread, coffee flavors. Admittedly not that refined, but tasty. I'd be happy to trade a few with you, send me a PM, I'm in SF. 1
RDB Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 I have an ass-kicking strong box of these with the same code. PSP grade from Rob - but your stick looks very nice too. It doesn’t sound like it’s lacking in flavour, so I would give the others a year or more before trying again. 1
