mikinva Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 I am new to cigars, smoke one per month. I have smoked 8 and shared about the same number with my son (who introduced me to them). I have Montecristo 4s, Vegueros Mananitas, JLP Brevas, Super Partagas, Room 101 Cool Arrows, 3x3 by Davidoff, Oliva Serie V Melanio, Cohiba Nic. Which is also the order in which I favor them. My question is. I only like about 2". Then I don't enjoy them any more. Which is OK when sharing one with my son. I have tried to save them for a few days in tubos and baggies, but they taste like an ashtray. I sometimes knock off ash and put them in a cupboard for later, it is better than sealing them, but still not good. Most of my cigars are 5.5" coronas. Has anyone cut them in two and smoked the two, 2.8" nubs separately?

My only thought would be that the foot half wrapper might want to unravel. A dab of pectin glue might help. Let us know how it goes

Or unscented chap stick might actually work better because you don't have to wait for it to dry. I would suggest investing in some petit coronas though (or some shorts if these are still too much). There are some great short smokes out there. Also, when you decide to stop smoking a cigar halfway through, do you to blow through it to purge it? If you do this, then set it down until it goes out, then purge again and cut off the burnt portion, you might get rid of a little bit more of that ashtray taste. It will never taste new again, but it might be just good enough.
Derboesekoenig Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Maybe pick up a new hobby? Lol just saying, it might not be for you. I would recommend a sampler, and if you still feel the same way about all the sticks you try, then I think you just don't enjoy it enough. No sense in smoking partial and saving it, as it's never the same. Though I have set mine down and come back to it hours later. Tap the ash off as much as you can, relight, purge, and enjoy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's just...meh. I don't do it often. Some cigars progress, however, if you keep smoking them, you will see a progression of different flavors. Some aren't great all the way through. Again, I suggest a CC sampler or just giving it up. Sorry I can't be of more help
Fuzz AI Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Perhaps try smoking smaller cigars, like Monte No.5, Monte Media Corona, H.Upmann Half Corona, Partagas Shorts, Rafael Gonzalez Perlas, etc? 1
mikinva Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 Thanks for the input. Maybe smoking smaller cigars is a good idea. Vegueros Mananitas are about 3.5" when you cut most the head off and they seem to stay good down to the band.

I hope one day you can find a cigar which will require you to take the band off and smoke past it, having been so good. One day!
parabola66 Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 I have done this on occasion, but only with cigars I don't really care about (planning that I am going to cut it halfway through).. its never going to taste like a fresh cigar.. The flavors start to disappear and it becomes harsh. I find that if I smoke the rest a few hours later it usually tastes better than smoking it the next day.
Chibearsv Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 My opinion is that you should dedicate 2 hours of relaxation time to try each cigar in a really comfortable place. If you're concerned about how to chop a good cigar in half on a regular basis, you may not be mentally surrendering the time it takes to really wind down and enjoy any cigar. You probably just haven't hit on that one that makes you chuckle to yourself at how great life is. Keep hunting a bunch of them until you find the one that flips the switch. Sometimes it's the cigar, sometimes it's the moment, sometimes it's the company your with, and usually, it's a combination. Good luck!
