Popular Post Wailbait Posted November 23, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 23, 2019 The idea of this review weekend was challenging to me. If I were to decipher the request it is “something that started great and continued to perform throughout its evolution/age.” That is tough. I am not one to smoke cigars young and truly enjoy them. I generally like at least a year. And those cigars that perform well young often don’t have legs to go deep. So I really had to think about this. What cigars do I own that are good while young that have aging potential? I came down to 2. E2 and MDO4. The E2 has marginally more “glitz and glam” so that’s the direction I went. First of all, while I’m loathe to suggest that El Laguito is some sort of magical cigar panacea, I will say that my two boxes of AMO E2 have consistently outperformed my 2014 ULA (Partagas factory) E2. Can’t explain why that is. This cigar has always been elegant and the first draw underscores that. It’s light and breezy. Not an air-tunnel. It’s just very subtle. In some ways it reminds me of an aged cigar. It has some Cedar wood and leather. This prompted a very long discussion of whether some of these new cigars which are quite good on the near term will have the legs for aging. Whether there’s “enough there” for the long haul. I have older Partagas 898s from 2007 which were nigh-on unsmokeable when fresh but have settled in nicely, but my newer 898s from 16 forward are wonderful when new but clearly there’s a lot less strength. They may not hit 10 years. About an inch in, clearly some new leaves ignited and the profile goes from medium minus to medium-full. All of the subtlety is there but a new fuller focus discloses itself. It’s meaty, gamy and funky. I really like it a lot. Many of the cigars that I have had from this box have been sweet and creamy but this one is definitely not that. And if this is the direction these e2s are going then I am excited. It’s complex. There’s a lot there. And I’m hoping that there’s enoigh there for the long haul. paired with a gin martini (2 parts Bombay dry. 1 part Drumshanbo gin, 1 part Dolin) easy 95 point cigar. 5 1

I adore E2s, and look for UAO when possible. Thx for the review sir. 2
