I have found a nice case for my stay in Cuba, it is in Guanabana. Does anyone know much about the area?

Aaah.  Are you planning on spending all your time at the beach?  That's a good 30-45 minutes each way from Havana.

Loads of Italians in Guanabo looking for ... chocolate

I have a Cuban friend has a beach house nearby, he complains it's the only place in Cuba where he finds more Italians than Cubans in the bread line ...

Only good place is a very good Italian ( what else ) restaurant "Piccolo".

Forget the beach restaurant "El Mare" - good location terrible food & service.

No I shall be having a few days in Havana and also seeing the tobacco farms, museums and Fusterlandia and what not. Dont mind a 45 min 20CUC taxi ride out to Havana or perhaps try the bus?

Might go out on the town Friday and Saturday and get a casa in Havana for the night. Who knows shall see where the wind takes me.

I had heard the le mere was good? Piccola is meant to be good to and also the 421?

And these Italians are the tourists/people on holiday or Italians that live there long term? And you say chocolate, I guess you do not mean the edible sort?

You say ugly as hell? Is the beach no good? The town no good?

I'm looking for a quiet peaceful and comfortable base location. I'm not a fan of city life. Im a country bumpkin and I love being near water. So a taxi or bus ride into town on the days I wish to go sounds like the best bet.
