Bohemio Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 Lately i been smoking quite a lot of montecristos, specially monte 4 (may 2018) and edmundo’s. However last night i decided to try a very young montecristo 2 (march 19) needless to say it was to young and it kick my butt. ? for how long should i age the rest for it to settle down to what it should really be.
Fuzz Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 Okay, can I get all the members who will say 3-5 years on one side, the ppl who will say right now on the left, and everyone else in the middle? On the count of three, shout out your preference,,,, 1....... 2....... 3!!! Seriously, though, it is highly subjective. You smoked a young Monte 2 and the nicotine slapped you around. A whole bunch of questions will now pop up. How long did you rest it in your humidor? What was the RH? Have you had a Monte 2 before? Have you smoked any cigars only a few months old? Have you smoked any other Monte 2s from that box (it could have been just that one bad one)? And so on, and so on. For me, I rarely smoke cigar less than 1 year old. Most of the Montes I've smoked have all been 2+ years old, and some getting close to 10 years. However, I love young PLPCs, despite people telling me I'm committing infanticide by not waiting 3+ years for the caramel flavour to develop. Different cigars, different taste, different expectations. Give another one a try, and if it is still kicking your butt, lay them down for another year before you come back to them. 3
THEMISCHMAN Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 How long has it been resting in your hum.... Kidding. Fuzz pretty much summed it up.
JoeyBones777 Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 As Fuzz said, it is subjective and his advice is best, try them periodically. I've worked my way through one box of Monte 2 and while I've enjoyed smoking them young, for me, they were prime at 5 years. Ive reserved one to smoke at 10 years just to see but I don't see how they can get any better after 5. This is the fun part of Cuban cigars, finding the marca and vitolas you like and at what age and then building you inventory to fit your personal taste. As El Presidents says, just relax and enjoy the journey. Asking questions on ageing and flavor profile is fine(I've done it numerous times ?) but you will get similar answers everytime. This is your journey and while you will fit in the general consensus at times, there will be times that your taste dissents from the general consensus.
RijkdeGooier Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 For me, the more complex flavours come out at around 10 years but older is even better ?? 2
