Popular Post Habana Mike
One of 5 pre-revolution cigars friends from Porto gifted me for my impending 60th birthday. Decided to give one a go today. 135mm x 42RG - Cosacos? Comes naked, unlike the post-revolution paper wrapped versions. Well constructed, marble head, triple cap. Very thin and fragile Colorado Clara wrapper. Firm but workable draw Pre-light there is a slight mustiness, old wood, anise - reminds of the attic in an old house on a hot day Hints of black walnut, brioche On light immediately hit with intense perfumy sweet floral notes, bottom of granny’s handbag. Woodiness, ripe apricot, saltiness, drying on the palate. The floral notes dissipate after about the first 1/4 inch. Lighter side of medium bodied, sweet and sour tang on the finish Ash is compact showing a consistent grey color with black striations - holds about an inch before the first drop, quite flaky 20 minutes in we reach the second tercio Starts to burn a bit unevenly so a light touch-up toward the middle of the smoke Hint of citrus, orange peel. Still the woody backbone - sandalwood. Strength remains constant 40 minutes in we enter the final third. Burn has evened out. Flavors and strength begin to intensify. Some earthiness and white pepper come into the mix. The anise from the cold draw makes an appearance. A slight bitterness on the finish. Just over an hour from start to finish. This cigar still retains quite a bit of life after more than 60 years of rest. I give it a 9.4 Would have loved to try one when these were first ready to smoke.
