Popular Post Habana Mike Posted June 3, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 3, 2019 Chose the Dumas this evening after a spicy tuna Poke dinner. This box Alex had held for me at the Comodoro last November. Shorter in supply back then, plentiful in April. Not quite a Robusto at 49 x 5.2" but I figured close enough. These come in a cardboard outer box, the inner box is wrapped in brown felt with the Montecristo logo imprinted in gold. The box itself is highly polished, smooth milk chocolate colored high quality wood. The 20 cigars nestled inside are also a fine light milk chocolate shade, silky smooth to the touch and no blemishes. Perfect construction. On the cut and cold draw, slight resistance with woody and dried mushroom notes. Interesting. I've only smoked a handful since bringing them home and have enjoyed each one more than the last. On the light there's toasty tobacco, light cocoa and balsa wood notes. Medium smoke production, right around medium body and a somewhat dry mouthfeel. The cigar remains a bit astringent as it progresses. Flavors on the milder side - dry wood, baking chocolate, walnuts. Not your typical Montecristo profile though quite enjoyable. Perfect burn and draw, very well rolled. Kudos to the torcedor! Dirty gray compact ash holds about an inch or so before dropping cleanly in the ashtray. Better than the lap! As we approach the center the flavors remain similar though pick up a bit and there's a touch of strength there. Just a hint of white pepper on the retrohale. A bit of youth but not too youthful. Enjoying this with some Rock Hill Farms Bourbon neat which is a quite nice quaff with a good cigar. The combination does require an ice water on the side. Surprised that the cigar has not shown much evolution so far though possesses decent complexity. Now with some black tea notes, still the wood and walnut. Chocolate has receded to the background. Burn slightly skewed now but no need for a touch-up as yet. Approaching the finale mouthfeel became a little more oily, still medium strength and body. Put it down after around 90 minutes of smoking time. Not bad but it wasn't the best example from the box that I've had so far. While I enjoyed this smoke well enough, I believe I'll leave at least a few more months before tasting again. This one 8.9/10 - box worthy nonetheless as I believe from previous examples these will improve greatly with another 2-3 years. 10
Bucky McSwensen Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Great review! I love these so far and am very excited to see how they develop
Connoisseur Kim Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Mine had severe wrapper explosion after I removed the bands... To me its flavour is good but not the greatest. Try Leyenda if you want the best of Linea 1935. I am sure you will love Leyenda more than Dumas!나의 SHV-E300S 의 Tapatalk에서 보냄 1
