San Cristobal PRADO LGR SEPT 18 (SSTRW)

I have a lovely looking box of El Principe, one of my all time favs, and a few Puntas in my Humi, but I thought I'd give some variety to the weekend review by busting this one out. Not even a year old, tsk tsk, too young to die, patience Max patience...My after work commute is usually 30-45 mins and I love smoking a stick while I drive.

1ST ACT: After a nice long toast, my first few sips were a big delicious bomb of raisins and heavy sweet cream that diminished right away. Once the first third got going it tasted like baked apples but that diminished quickly as well. Maybe some proper aging would've lended some consistancy, I'll have to get another one and find out! Distant brown sugar with an almost leather taste in my throat. The draw is so close to being tight, but its still effortless and lovely with more smoke coming out than I anticipated. The smoke feels light and clean in your mouth. (My Humi is at 69/69). when I clipped, I didnt take enough off the tapered torpedo end, and had to reclip to open it up more, and unfortunately my great, solid ash fell off with that secondary clipping:(  The second hand smoke had a tart like fruity smell but I couldn’t put my finger on.  

2ND ACT:  I like to wait for the bands to be loose before I smoke a stick, but the bands were fastened on since its so young, and having that secondary band doubled the chance of tearing my wrap when I had to remove them, and as you can see, a small tear in the wrap made for photo 2, but it was a non issue, and Prado held together and burned great.  Tart jam, with a nutmeg-without the nutmeg hidden deep in it, I still can't place my finger on but its so distinctly something. The baked apple comes back fuller, more chewy than it ever was, and I get powdered brownie mix. Cream is back. And nearing the end of the 2nd act, it tastes like that brownie mix got turned in actual brownies, with a powdery, Scratch and sniff sticker chocolate background. Cream and apple skins. The second hand smoke profile had eluded me until it all clicked: stewed strawberries wiht a whisper of stale nutmeg. What a stick!

3RD ACT: All the rounded delivery of distinct flavours intensified into tastes i couldn't put my finger on and when I rest it for a momentmy mouth has the taste of the smell of twigs when they are broken open and snow, if you eat snow (insert Canadian joke here). Stopped smoking halfeway through the 3rd act when it started to taste more like a more like Peat and the smell of blueprints when they are just printed.  Maybe I was puffing on that quite a bit for the review but it definitely gave me that windswept nicotine rush feeling. I had some chocolate, drank a big glass of water, and had a lovely, deep, sleep. Total smoke time 45 minutes.

8/10    Going to pick another few up and get some age on them, see how it all adds up a few years from now.. happy smoking!

Sounds like a nice cigar. I haven’t looked it up but is the Prado similar in size to a Monte Petit No. 2?

Ya it is a nice little one.  This ones 5 inches with a 50 gage, monte petit 2 is 4.7 inches with a 52 gage.

I've been waiting for reviews for these to trickle out, so thank you for that. I will definitely be on the lookout for some boxes now. 

I hear ya on the bands. Most of the time I'll remove them even before lighting, so I don't have to worry later on.
