Bolivar Libertador unknown date (BWRC)

This was my first Libertador and was very excited to try it. Not sure the of the vintage as this was a gifted cigar from Rob and the FoH crew from a contest winnings. Thanks!! I would guess it’s a late 17 early 18.

 

Decided to pair with some of my favourite rum.

 

Punched the cigar, which provided a good draw, slightly on the open side.

The aroma at cold was leather and cedar.

 

1st: opened up pretty good with notes of leather and pepper. I thought the somewhat harsh pepper notes would disappear after the first few puffs but it didn’t, it was unpleasant and rough around the edges.

2nd: not much evolution at all, was waiting for some of the classic bolivar earthiness and coffee notes, it was straight leather and pepper. Maybe a touch of black coffee.

3rd: still no evolution. The cigar did pick up in strength to med-full.

 

All in all I must say I was disappointed as I have heard mainly good reviews about this cigar. And I do enjoy bolivar, particulary BBF and BRC. The cigar did perform very well, no touch ups at all. Wondering if it just needed more time down. It has been laying in my humidor for over 60 days easy since the travel.

That's a bummer.  Never tried a libertador, but just picked up a box on 2424 a few days ago.  I don't think I've ever had a CC that was dominated by pepper, and don't think I want to lol.

Good review. I have never had one but have always wanted to try.  Seems like love um or hate um.

I'll bet it needed a longer nap.  The Immensas are the same, smoke them too young and they will box you about the ears and leave you feeling roughed up.  Pack 'em down deep and damp in the humi for 5 or longer and voila!  Meanwhile, all my experience with the Corona Gigante is a cigar with a greater tolerance for smoking young or old.  Something in the blend perhaps?  Either that or the French guy who designed the Libertador had smoked too many Gallois!
