For this review I visited a local bar and chose a Deschutes Black Butte Porter, thinking that a dark beer would be an interesting choice for this cigar.

The porter had the coffee taste I was looking for, but it also had a slight bitter aftertaste that definitely affected the cigar.

This was the best Montecristo No. 2 I have ever smoked, and it exhibited a light cocoa flavor right from the start.  A sip of beer, however, brought a pronounced woody taste out of the cigar that lasted until the bitterness of the beer subsided.  The cocoa/wood notes continued until the final third of the cigar, when the Montecristo flavor became more like wood/toast.

A decent pairing, but nothing too exciting.
