MoeFOH Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I haven't been to Cuba, but it's definitely on the bucket list. For those that have been, if you had just one thing to suggest to a first-timer (activity, event, bar, restaurant, tourist site, whatever...), what would it be? (Detailed info/pics welcome and appreciated.) Cheers, Moe.
Derboesekoenig Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Just went for the first time. Here are my notes. Let me know if you have any questions. I compiled notes of all LCDH and other notes on a word doc if you want it. http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/topic/135494-first-trip-to-cuba/ 1

Derboesekoenig Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Ohhh absolutely, but it depends on your agenda really. Please go to Hotel Nacional and grab all of the marble ashtrays IF they have any. They didn't have any when I went and that was top 3 on my list to get. Go to El Floridita for daquiris! I liked O'Reilly 305, El Aljibe, and Bodeguita del medio. Check out Habana Vieja and a fortress or two if you're into that? The museums were interesting if you're into history. Go get some custom rolls from Alex, Yolanda, etc. at the various LCDH/hotels 2
Fuzz AI Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 If you are going to get an ashtray, be warned... they are bloody heavy!!! I bought the large one and it put my bag over the limit. I just got lucky that the check in lady let me go, instead of telling me to buy another bag like the group before me.
Derboesekoenig Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I would've bought 3 or 4 of them if they had them. They look amazing from the pictures I've seen. And make great gifts
LLC Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I would say go to The National, soak in all the history and then go to the awesome back patio and enjoy a fine cigar with your drink of choice. 2

I would second this. It’s a great place to sit and enjoy a smoke. On a side note, I really regret it grabbing an ashtray, there were numerous ones available when I was there in February/March. Silly mistake in my part.

I spend most of my evenings here when I am there Just love the place - check out the mojitos from Carlos in the bar inside!

The National looks like a grand spot to visit. It's on the list! On the website it's touting "Free WiFi", too... but from what I've heard of Cuba, this is not going to be of great benefit. : )

ETECSA cards typically work for logging into the network though and if its relatively calm (read after midnight) its actually one of the faster connections in Havana. 1
