Civicdoodies
Okay, so I've been smoking cigars for close to 15 years now. I count myself as fairly experienced on how to smoke a cigar, knowing how to start it up, touch it up, and keep it burning smoothly. However, my last three cigars I've run into some significant burning issues that I can't figure out if it's me, the humidor, or the cigars themselves. I'd appreciate some input if you guys have any. The first two were H upmann yarguera cigars that I got as a free box with a separate box purchase. I read reviews that said others have had burn issues with this cigar, so I figured my problems were maybe related to the cigar, not anything I was doing. But essentially the wrapper doesn't burn. The Cherry will go deep into the cigar, the wrapper doesn't burn, and then the cigar dies out; no amount of touching up, cutting and relighting, or anything else really worked. Now I am smoking a Rocky Patel dark dominion and I'm having the exact same issues. The draw is much easier than the yarguera was, but it's really having kind of the same problem. My humidor is temperature-controlled to stay between 66 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and it is humidity controlled to range at about 65 to 68%. To the touch, all the cigars feel like they're in pretty good shape. Anybody have some explanation on why I might be having this issue? Like I said, I feel like I know what I'm doing, but I'm not sure why I'm having this repeated problem, and now even on different brands.
MooseAMuffin
Search for this topic on the forum, tons of good info as this has been discussed a bunch of times. From my experience, your humidity is too high. I leave mine at 62%. Also look into dry boxing before smoking.
HabanosNJGuy
I agree, lower the humidity and see if that helps. It definitely helped me with my burn issues. I used to get a lot more tunneling and canoeing when my humidity was in the high 60s. Also make sure you're not smoking too quickly. Otherwise, since you know what you're doing, I always chalk it up to construction issues.

I'm a bit skeptical as most of the NCs I have smoked would have benefited of a slower burning, a less hot smoke — generally speaking, NCs kept at 62/65% (my range for habanos, I don't smoke enough NCs to have a dedicated humidor) always give me the impression that they're a bit too dry.
stogieluver
Are you smoking in high humidity conditions?
Civicdoodies
Just now, stogieluver said: Are you smoking in high humidity conditions? Nope, I live in Southern CA, usually pretty dry here. Just got back from church and decided to get right back on the horse with RP 1999 vintage Conn... And it's smoking beautifully. The Dark Dominion cigar was VERY dark, so it may have needed to be a little drier. The Yagueras are a newish, specialty/proprietary tobacco, and reviews I have found have been like 50/50 on burn issues. I may try dry boxing them in the future (once I look up what dry boxing is! I am not a Cubans guy at all, but this forum seems more helpful and genuine than other forums I've been on). It's a shame about the Yagueras though, because they seem pretty tasty, I just can't get a true feel for them since I have to futilely fight them the whole time. Some of the maduro wrappers that they come with are almost fire retardant unless they seem "too" dry to the touch. It sounds unusual for NCs, but dry boxing may help. I haven't really smoked enough NCs as of late to know for sure, not sure what else to do other than drop the RH of the humidor down. I guess it could come down to what type of treatments are the NC wrapper leaves getting that make them so unwilling to burn? I think you are on to my problem. The Yagueras are a specialty, very "fine"/temperamental tobacco, which may be causing the burn issues, and may prefer to be a tad drier. And the Dark Dominion I had was super dark, which could have been the problem you describe. Decided to go for a RP 1999 Vintage Connecticut, and it's beautiful. I'll research "dry boxing", as I am not acquainted with that concept, and try that on my more delicate Yagueras and darker cigars. I appreciate the inisght from everyone, it helps, especially when I felt like I had all of the sudden become some newbie smoker for 3 straight cigars!
