Not to get too Academic here but how would you know whether you liked, really liked, loved, etc. a cigar unless you had bad or less than ideal cigar experiences to compare the good ones too?

How do you know something is “good” unless you know what “bad”, “horrible”, “below average” are?

do you have to have tasted a bad wine to appreciate a good one ?

Or a steak, or a hamburger......    ?

Sex  ?

Is it not the degree of pleasure a thing gives  ?
