Popular Post joeypots
I started to smoke Cuban Cigars at the very end of the 90s after smoking Dominicans like Avo's and Fuentes for about 5 years. The Cubans came on slowly, mostly cigars a pal brought from Toronto and they were so expensive I hoarded them and only smoked one on special occasions. Since I started smoking Cuban cigars my tastes have changed and I have developed strong preferences about markas and especially vitolas. Early on a 50 RG was a fat cigar and I went for them, a Julieta #2 or Double Corona were the go to cigars for me and I dismissed smaller cigars. Once into CCs, though, I found I liked the Corona Gorda best. The Hoyo EPI #1 was king and it smoked well aged or fresh. A box of Esplendidos and couple of 5 packs of Siglo IVs got me acquainted with Cohibas and along the line I got a few RASS that had some age on them, probably from a box pass or a private sale. I don't like Robustos and I really don't like the Hermoso #4. I don't know why, I just prefer thinner and longer. But those RASS were as tasty as anything I'd ever had so I bought a 50cab in '06 and kept my mitts off of it for 5 years. That was around the time that I stopped buying Els and REs, except for a very select few, and concentrated on building a cigar cellar of regular production cigars that I knew I liked. Those '06 RASS were the bomb but I was buying Bolivars and Montecristos and when I finished the cab I didn't have another to fill the void. I took a hint from a Dictatorial Cigar Merchant and bought a MUR '13 cab. I started smoking from it last week. Just about five years on the nose. Despite the vitola, these are very good cigars. The RASS is a cigar that looses a rough, tannic, and strong profile when young and smoothes out into a nutty, toasted tobacco gem. The one I smoked yesterday was very good, if not great. It started out with creamy smoke and left a nice nutty taste. I'm not too good at describing cigar flavors buy I have found that Ramon Allones have a nutty profile. The cigar never got too harsh or bitter as I smoked it but around the last third I did find that I retrohaled less than at the beginning of the smoke. All in all it was a brilliant cigar though not up to the standard of the old '06s. Yet. I don't think I'll let myself be short of the RASS again, even if I'd rather it be rolled as a corona gorda.
danny
Always a go-to for me. Have a couple of cabs of MUR 13 that I smoke through occasionally as well, but find myself reaching for younger sticks probably more often though. Loving corona gordas myself, have you ever tried the RA Superiores - LCDH? Might be right up your alley. Has a bit more of a bite to the nuttiness you mentioned, in my opinion. Great cigar. TheMonk
Nice job, on a stick that is almost always a great smoke!

Not a big robo smoker either, but an aged RASS, and in particular beyond the 5 yr mark, is a special treat. Thanks for the nice review!
