Popular Post BuzzArd
My first ever cigar? I can't remember it. Some of the early ones I do recall though, like the Opus X that kicked my ass one evening at a pal's house after dinner and a hot tub dip that only compounded the mayhem.... I almost couldn't climb myself out... That was a whipping. My first Cuban was around the same time, given by the same fellow that near killed me with that Opus. A few months ago I found the empty tube in the glove box of the 1970 VW Beetle I drove at the time. I was going to post a thread on it back then, but of course never got around to it. Seems appropriate for the throwback review though. This RyJ No 1 stuck with me probably because it was a real Cuban. If I had another Ida smoked it today, but they're long gone at this point, a chopping block victim of the omniscient HSA grinding wheel. Maybe not a bad thing as I don't recall that it was outstanding except for the fact that it was my first. So, in honor, I'll fire up a TOR SEP 16 Petite Corona in lieu of having the real thing. Cold aroma was all sweet tobacco, draw was firm, but not too tight. Fired it up and got that familar Romeo tartness right off; cherries and some tart espresso notes. Cocoa and faint cedar made an appearance as well. Through the first third the same continued. As it passed through the half a more earthy, vegetal note came to the fore and built through the second third. Entering the final stretch and the earthy notes continued. . Interesting, as forest floor and mushrooms are flavors I usually associate with Bolivar. Still, they're flavors I enjoy. Razor sharp burn was present from initial light and remained throughout. As it wrapped up I could barely discern any cherry tartness, though the smooth flavor blend of earth, cocoa and espresso mixed with an earthy foundation that had been present from the first light (although far more subtle) finished it off nicely. Glad to have two full (almost) boxes on hand. Total smoking time: 1hr 10 minutes.

We were swapping in new tie rod ends, fixing front brakes and swapping on a good used German fender this day several months ago. My Aunt bought it new in '70. I got it from her in '88. 2
PrairieSmoke
Great review. I love the pictures. Can't wait for the weather to warm up. A warm fire and a cigar sound great!
