Naug Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Good morning from Taiwan! We'll (wife and three preschoolers) be in Australia from 12/13 - 1/2 travelling from Perth to Sydney via rail and car. Looking for recommendations for Christmas eve dinner in Melbourne. We'll be in Sydney from 12/28 - 1/2, 12/29 is my wife's birthday and her request is a dinner boat cruise - recommendations for this would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance Toby
BTWheezy Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Hey Toby, can’t help on the dinner suggestions, but I can easily remember your wife’s birthday...it’s the same as mine. Hope you have a great trip, sounds fun!
Habana Mike Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Can't help you personally with suggestions for the birthday dinner boat cruise though there's a few options/reviews here: https://www.viator.com/Sydney-tours/Dinner-Cruises/d357-g3-c5640 Hopefully the locals can give your better guidance. Regardless, enjoy!
Fuzz Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 There are plenty of Sydney Harbour dinner cruises, but it comes down to whether you just want dinner and a view or dinner and a show. I haven't been on a harbour dinner cruise for a few years (last time was for an office Xmas party back in 2012), but they are typically the same. Either a buffet dinner or a 2-3 option selection for each course. Depending on the package, drinks can be included (house wine, beer, soft drinks and juice) or you can pay by the glass/bottle. I'll give it to you straight, you're not going for the food. Most of the time it is nice, not thrilling, just nice (but sometimes quite shocking). What you're really going for is the view. Most dinner cruises start around 7pm, and with daylight saving, the sun is still above the horizon (sunset is usually around 8pm in late December). It's the busy period, so expect a lot of people onboard. 1

jay8354 Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 If you just want the view and great food, assuming that you have a larger budget (since it is for the wife), I would like to suggest to not go for the dinner cruise. Book a table "with a view" (let the staff know nicely) for the degustation for the adults, kids meals at the Dining Room at the Park Hyatt. Alternatively, Quay or Altitude are also not bad. Depending on how long you think your kids will last. Finish dinner, go for a walk around the Rocks area towards Opera House, stop and have a hot chocolate along the way.
Fuzz Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 A hot chocolate? In our summer weather?! Have an ice cold beer instead!... but hide it in a Maccas cup, as city ordnance doesn't allow for open containers of alcohol.
