Martin_F Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Hi guys, I recently got this Montecristo Edmundo, but I don't know anything about it's age, since it didn't come with any box code information. The band is all white, no gold color at all. Per this website: https://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand/montecristo this would mean it's been made between 2006 and 2012. Is it save to assume this cigar has at least 5 yeas of age in it, or am I missing something here? Thanks for your help, Martin
JohnS Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Unfortunately, no. 2013 would have been the year that Habanos S.A. started to put band Standard Band D on their Montecristo cigars. The Standard Band C bands would have been continued to be used until they were all gone, and that may have taken at least another year (or a little more). Below is an image of a PMU Sep 14 Montecristo Tubos and I know my AUM Jul 14 Montecristo 5's had Standard Band C bands on them too. 2
Martin_F Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 Thanks for the info @JohnS. So by this math, it should still have around three years of age on it. Think it'll be my Thanksgiving smoke this coming Thursday!
JohnS Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 I believe that would be a safer assumption, definitely. Perhaps others can confirm if Standard Band C bands were used into 2015. I'd have to check my photo archives to confirm one way or the other (when I get the opportunity).

Good info JohnS...for what it's worth I've got a box of No. 2's from NOV14, they have the "D" bands. 1
garbandz Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 I have several boxes of Monte 4s from '14,up to Nov '14, different factory codes, all with the old band. Probably safe to figure 3 years............
Martin_F Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 Thanks guys, that's great news. Certainly a lot better than I could expect when I bought the cigar. Looking forward to smoking it on Thursday. While we're on the subject of aged cigars, if anybody is willing to let go of some aged Diplomaticos singles, please shoot me a PM. Thx
