The real joke is we threw $100mil down the gurgler for what we all knew.

Just under 50% of the eligible voting public want same sex marriage, 30% said no and 20% didn't bother to vote (7.82mil Yes votes, 4.87mil No votes and 3.2mil "I don't care to vote, just get on with your bloody job running the country"). Landslide victory for the Yes campaign? Not really (60% is barely a pass at uni). Worth $100mil? Not on your damn life. Could have been better spent on other more pressing issues. There would have been little opposition to change the Marriage Act to allow gay marriage, if Turnbull had the stones to put it to parliament (except from right wing members of his own party). And it wouldn't have cost $100mil.

If they really wanted to call it a landslide, they could say 70% said "Yes" or "I'm not bothered by gay marriage" and 30% said "No".

And the pollies in the electorates who voted "No", will be voting "Yes" in parliament. Totally ignoring the fact that they are in parliament to represent the views of their electorates.

fuzz, you can bet that plenty of the MPs who opposed will continue to do so. why take any notice of the electorate?

60% in a vote is pretty comprehensive. but fully agree. that spineless dishrag turnbull - 'i'm good in a crisis" well then lord spare us if we ever have one. we elected the parliament and then this. merely to appease the neanderthals in his own party. but yet again we have a choice between the dishrag, the snake oil salesman and now the vile bigoted moron "i am not a racist. i had chinese food for lunch".

in other words, the people who should be making decisions, the politicians, are too spineless.

the people who should not be making decisions, the australian cricket selectors, can't stop.

this thread should be friday tragedy, not funny.

fuzz, the tragic thing is that i am not making that up. when i was living on the coast, i heard her interviewed on radio. she actually said that when asked if she was racist. and she genuinely thinks that things like that mean that she is not.

even worse is the number of people who vote for her - granted, bugger all options.

people like her and her supporters are the greatest evidence for a divine power i can envisage. quite simply, there are times i think that the only explanation for them is that there is a god who has a really sick sense of humour. you kill one son...

I recall the comment. Fell off my chair laughing when I heard it.

It does make you wonder if this is all just one big prank by an all-powerful entity.

But yes more on topic. It is hilarious how 13 years ago the PM just changed it. And now we need a vote to change it back? I actually think a PM like the free world leader would be good for us. Just signing **** left right and centre
