Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 https://cruxnow.com/vatican/2017/11/09/pope-francis-bans-cigarette-sales-vatican/ Curiously enough, what is banned in the Vatican as of 2018 is not the sale of all tobacco products but only that of cigarettes: “The sale of large cigars [as opposed to "small" cigars?] will continue,” press secretary Burke added, and provided a Clintonesque justification: “since the smoke is not inhaled”. When during the canonisation proceedings for Pope Pius X (d. 1914) in the early 1950s, the advocatus diaboli (devil’s advocate) objected to the holiness of Giuseppe Sarto on the grounds that he had been a smoker, the cardinals in attendance reportedly laughed out loud (some of them quite possibly with cigarettes in hand). 1
SGD316 Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 As having just returned from there, thank God. Europeans have an obsession with smoking cigarettes 24/7. I do not understand it. I am not sure what the delineation between small and large cigars will be. Perhaps the cigarillos will be banned?
JohnS Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Bad news for these guys... And bad news for Vatican workers and their family members who are able to get their monthly supply of cigarettes at reduced prices and sell them for a handsome profit in Italy. Aah, at least you can still buy cigars at 20% less than Italian prices in the Vatican! 1
LordAnubis Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Toscanos will be interesting. You can buy them as one big huge thing (lancero size) that you then cut in half and smoke seperately. You can also buy the pre cut toscanos. I wonder if they’ll start selling only the full ones?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JR Kipling Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 They’ll just buy them outside the Vatican. The Italian tax authorities will light a candle in gratitude.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
