For the record, I have never done this nor will I.  Then again, I don't smoke cigars with 25+ years of age.   The argument of this reviewer is that the cigar was old and slightly brittle.  Keeping storage comments aside (we already know a perfect kept cigar doesn't need to be altered) is washing your cigar the dumbest thing ever or just something that probably won't help or hurt the cigar. I've never heard of this until I saw this review.

Wow.  I cant believe it was smokable after that dunking.  I wanna try this with a "cheap and cheerful"  just tonsee if I could get it lighted!

He seemed to enjoy it, so thats all that matters!

It's fairly common, some folks swear by it for older cigars. Others believe that wetting younger cigars cigars render them less tannic. I've heard a number of theories but I don't think there is a necessarily a consensus as to how it works but I think it's safe to say that the wrapper will burn a little slower. A search for "rinsing" will bring up some threads on this forum where it has been discussed previously. Other forums have referred to this practice as "wetting" the cigar rather than washing.

Cut the cap after wetting the cigar. The worst that will happen is that you won't notice a difference.

^^ This (unless you do something really stupid). I've tried a handful of times, and I recall the smokes being less tannic with better burns on balance... but honestly this could be because it was my expectation. Would need to baptize many more smokes to feel more sure about it.
