Anyone on this form blind or vision impaired?  I am curious to hear their insight on cigars since wrapper color is not something they gauge cigars (or wine) on.

I am always careful judging wrapper color when I buy a cabernet or merlot.............

I find that if they are too light I have to use the Riedel glasses..............:whip:

I have a degenerative corneal disease called Keratoconus. My previously dominant right eye is very bad and I can't see anything but very vague shapes and blurred colors out of it. It's literally off the charts as I can't even read the largest 20/200 line on the charts. I have to get a corneal transplant in that eye sometime in the coming year.

The other eye is better and I've had a clinical trail procedure done on it to halt the progression of the disease in that eye. With a corrective hard contact, I can see about 20/40 so I'm not completely blind by any stretch of the imagination. However I don't really ever wear the contact because it's extremely uncomfortable. I can still see colors quite well but I do miss some of the smaller details and nuances.

With that said, I still go for darker wrappers with more of a sheen to them. For some reason in my mind that equates to a better cigar but usually means more time down. At the end of the day, judging a cigar off of the wrapper color is one of the many elements of grading a cigar. I've had plenty of bad cigars with nice looking wrappers.

Not exactly what you were asking about but I hope it helps.

They selling wine tasting glasses that are made out of totally black glass.  It keeps the color out of the equation and forces other vectors to the front.  Color is a low lying fruit.

Easy enough to duplicate, kind of.      Try smoking alone in the dark, totally quiet.  It sort of like a cigar sensory deprivation tank.   All your focus will be on the cigar with no distractions.

Pair with water only.     ...if anything at all.

Given its finals season in Oz for our football codes, I thought this was about umpires / referees
