El Presidente Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 I had no idea until I read this. Calgary man warns Cuba travellers about fine print after paying 10X cost of damaged TV The so-called rule of 10 wasn't something Dan Lukis had ever heard of before his vacation to Cuba, but the fine-print policy that cost him more than $5,000 won't soon be forgotten — nor will the pall it cast on his trip booked through Sunwing. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/cuba-vacation-gone-wrong-tv-1.4270994 1
havanaclub Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Brutal. Have been down to Cuba many times and have never heard of this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LGC Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Reminds me of the time I went to Bali, and they gave me a shorter travel visa than I requested upon landing. Upon leaving to Surabaya, they quickly pointed me and my brother to the ATM to withdraw cash... without the slightest friggin' hesitation. What ever happened to the woman and son that hit the truck that pulled in front of them in Cuba? I believe the story was that the son died in the scooter accident , and they were holding the body and mom hostage... and wouldn't release them for a funeral. 1
vladdraq Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 my my...my fellow canadian was drunk but stil...5000 for a crapy tv is outrageous. 1
Corylax18 Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Sounds like he shouldn't have reached for that last beer....... One more reason to go the Casa Particular route. I broke a curtain rod in my casa last year and the owner refused to take my money to replace it. (Thank goodness for Aussie Expats ) The maid also refused to take the daily house keeping tips I left for here. By the end of my trip she was walking past almost $100 USD everyday on the way in and out. I asked the owner what the deal was and he told me she thought I had just left it there and that there was no way I had left that much for a tip. She was supremely grateful when I handed her the money myself. Gaviota (the government) are thieves, and will clearly take advantage at every opportunity. Don't let this taint your opinion of Cuba/Cuban people, they couldn't be any different. Thanks for the heads up Pres, one more thing to be on the lookout for.I know its easy to say "just don't get drunk" but thats much, much easier said than done. 2
oliverdst Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Matteo Speranza posted about It a couple of days ago in Facebook. I commented that I had never heard about It before and he said he hadnt either. Other people said the same. Here, again, the same.

It's been also on the Cuban news ( the ones from outside of Cuba ) and the worst part are the comments https://www.cubanet.org/noticias/turista-canadiense-denuncia-que-fue-tratado-como-un-criminal-en-cuba/
madandana Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Kind of scary. If he were American his credit cards wouldn't have work. He'd be in a world of hurt.
BellevilleMXZ Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Been like that forever......Went with another couple in 97. He was all boozed up and tripped and broke a small cheap lamp in his room, and it was 350$ before he could get onto the bus to the airport. No amount of arguing changed it. It was a dollar store lamp if anything, and at a 3.5 star resort. I'm always careful now.....lol Trip was only 600 a person back then

Funny funny people, non stop eating and partying and breaking things. I found a whole chicken in the pool with french fries of course ! Apparently when they leave they bring whatever they can with from food to dishes etc. 1
