Any R/C boat builders in the house?

As a kid, I loved building and flying R/C airplanes.  20 some years later, I thought it would be fun to build another model.  To simply things, I wanted something that was less likely the tumble from the sky and explode into a gazillion pieces.  A boat seemed like an attractive option.  I started this kit over the winter, but got sidetracked along the way.  Now that the sun is shining, I figured it was time to get cracking again.  Tonight, I put a coat of finishing resin on the hull.  Next step - sand and paint!

This boat will be powered by a 26cc gas engine with tuned exhaust.  Should be good for about 50MPH, or so they say!

Nice work! No boats for me, but I’ve been an on-again, off-again RC airplane builder for years. I love the smell of a fire-breathing glow fuel engine in the morning!

I just recently sold my Serpent F180 and my Tamiya F201. I've still got my Tamiya F104 Pro that i won the WA state titles with.

I long ago sold my Team Durango DNX8. I will probably get a HB Racing D817 when i get back home because the 2018 IFMAR World Championship is in Perth! So it'll be a good thing to fail miserably at

Funny you should bring this up.

When I was a kid I used to make the occasional model plane, mostly control line stuff. Hadn't thought about them for well over 40 years.

I probably got the bug from my uncle who was an avid model maker. Over the last Easter long weekend my uncle suddenly passed away. I hadn't seen him for almost 20.

It turns out that my uncle, who never married and lived alone had become somewhat of a hoarder. I had to identify his body and on the way back from the morgue I went to his house and was confronted by my task at hand. If you have ever seen stories on tv about hoarders well dear uncle was every bit as bad as most of them.

Getting back to the topic of this thread though it turns out that apart from every magazine and piece of mail that came through his door over 35 years he also bought a large quantity of large scale R/C plane kits. I haven't actually counted them but I think it is around 30 or so. Most of them are at least 2 meter wing span and they are all still in their boxes and have never been built. Most are the Almost ready to fly type of kit.

There are P38's, Spitfires, Stinsons ,F4U Corsair,  there's a big Twin Piper Comanche just to name a few plus a large quantity of engines. The best would be three big Moki engines, one is a twin cylinder a Moki 360. Also a few radio sets the best being a Futaba T14 SG.

I intend to sell most of this stuff but the little boy in me is thinking about keeping a couple for myself.

I guess I need to start an eBay store or something.

Yep, the “more than I need, less than I want” syndrome doesn’t just apply to cigars. I’ve accumulated quite a few kits, thinking I’ll build them when I get to old to ride my mountain bike. That’s my plan anyway.
