Box of 2001 RA898s
Box of 2007 Parti 898s
Box PL Encantos

The presentation of the 898 style packaging is so nice I cant bear to ruin it
I just keep buying 5'ers and 10'ers from people to keep my boxes complete
I have no intention of ever selling them, but I have so few pretty things in my house...

If I am planning on aging the cigars,  I leave therm alone and bury them in the humidor.  Once I crack a box,  it's  hard for me tho stay out of therm,  if they are smoking well.

Used to happen to me too, then I put myself on a self-imposed buying boycott, and soon found I had to crack open all the cabs I had stashed. Before I knew it I smoked down most of my cabs. I only started buying again a year ago, and now I have a lot of aged odds and ends (onesie, twosie) that I can't bear to part with, and a bunch of 2015 and 2016 stock that are too young to smoke. Dilemma

That's why the self-imposed buying boycott is NEVER the answer.  Self control has never been one of my strengths but "slow and steady" to have rotating "stock" is what I'm trying to accomplish.....besides, so far she hasn't threatened divorce!  Maybe spring for some boxes with minimal age?  Maybe pursue some stick exchanges with fellow BOTLs?

I've never had much of an issue in starting a box, but finishing a box is the hardest for me.  I have a single 08 Des Dieux buried in my humidor that is the last stick from the very first box of cigars I ever bought, and I don't know when I will ever be able to bring myself to smoke it.

This!

LOL! My boycott was partly driven by frustration with HSA, and partly by competing financial priorities. I have a love/hate relationship with my dealers

Yep know that feeling. I have a box of Por Larranaga Encantos sourced from El Prez a couple of years ago. Luckily I also scored some singles from him too at the time. Singles well gone and were delightful....However, just can't bring myself around to diving into the full box. Still outstanding barnyard aroma and look as good as the day I bought them.....I keep telling myself I am waiting for a special ocassion to break them out........one day:rolleyes:

Had box of Bolivar Especiales RE's that was sealed and someone offered me 1K a couple of weeks ago; so off they went.

Mistake... :cigar::yes:

I've always had a penchant for acquiring complete sets of things, so yes, I struggle with opening boxes for that first stick.  A month or so ago I decided I'd start buying partial boxes to alleviate that problem.  Finally acted on it with the Sancho Panza belis and the last HUPC offered the other day.  I'll be far more likely to toss them in the travel humidor (or any other from samplers acquired) than I would be to pop a box of royal robustos or even connie a's.  I do love the samplers...!

Of course there is a big part of me that has been driven the past 2-3 years to collect boxes I'll want to lay down for 3-5 years (or more?) and see how they do.  That's probably only 15% responsible for my avoiding that first stick.  The rest is definitely neurosis....

With cabs I'll sneak one out of the middle so as not to spoil the look of it. Once you've had two or three the magic glue stops working though...and the slippery slope starts.

Most the time I smoke one out of the box and if I think they need more time I won't touch them again in a couple years so I have probably around 30 boxes missing only one cigar.

MEL 2008 CoLa - 2009 Trin RobT (24).

I tell myself had the Trin been a box of 12, I'd have burned them already.

The price of the CoLA  08 box that went for auction in London last month has caused greater pause.

I understand one auction price does not make a market, but it was noteworthy to an owner.

I typically have a problem finishing them off. I have a continually growing singles box that's just random sticks. I'm probably close to a 75% retention rate on keeping at least one stick from every full box that I've bought.

I need to force myself to smoke through all of my random singles before I get into my box rotation. The issue is that I don't smoke too often and when I do, I normally have a cigar already picked out in my head.

My box of diplo excellencias.  It's just such a cool story, walking in to Club Habana and seeing them setting up for a party.  Pure luck they were doing a small release thing while I was there.

Haven't been able to bring myself to test the goods.  It's almost time...
