Duckguy Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Noob here...this is awesome. Wonder how much it's gonna cost me to have one of these bastids shipped stateside. Names abound, but how about "La Cava". Okay, that's lame but I tried. Josh
TR Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 One thing I would like in a cabinet would be the ability to get to the damn humidifying unit easily......man in my Aristocrat I damn hear have to empty the darn thing......tube fed resivior would ROCK! You should name it the 65/65 or Havana Vault or the Safehouse
hazleem Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Can you make sure it has a false wall, so I can hide my babies behind it when my parents come visit ;-) -Haz-
PigFish Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Good thoughts Rob and some great suggestions from above. Pull out drawers a must. Nice to view temp and humidity from outside. Nice to have a quiet but audible alarm for an extreme conditions. With many people now storing their cigars at lower temperatures, the inside should be lined with wood. In humid conditions the regular opening and closing of the unit will likely cause condensation inside on the plastic. The use of plastic instead of wood can really make for some wild swings in humidity with units that have cooling; I know this from experience. Make sure the plastic does not have an offensive odor! Make sure the cooling unit has the ability to drain off condensation to the humidifier and does not drip on the cigars! Some additional fans are a must. They should run anytime the cooling unit runs, when the humidifying unit runs and on a timed relay anytime the unit is opened. Add all the above features and the unit is no longer cost effective!!! -LOL
The Privateer Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 This sounds like a great idea....I just bought a wine chiller for my stash 2 monts ago and am very happy with the results. I do face the problem of varying humidity. I stay in a hot, humid area so humidity is high constantly unless I use silica gel to absorb it! Everytime the door is opened, condensation occurs, allowing more water inside. I am also concerned about the long term effects of temp/humidity swings when the compressor kicks in. Dress boxes especially aren't airtight. Thoughts anyone?
Maverick Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Should I be worried by the fact that you haven't responded with an idea of price yet? What about a %off sale based on number of Posts. Ross...
El Presidente Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 Ross. Trying to keep it between $1100 AUD - $1500 AUD. Hold 30 - 50 boxes.
El Presidente Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 As a rule wine fridges are a poor option. Humidity hangs at 55% unless you add additional source (water in trays). Hard to control. What temp do you keep it at and what is your RH reading?
dysfunctional Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 » Name: The Cubador Love that name.......
genevapics Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Without a doubt... "The Cubador." Now that is a name.

swl Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I find that in the summer months, the ambient humidity in the room is often high enough that the humidifier in my cabinet doesn't need to turn on very often. It would be nice if the fans in your unit can turn on for a minute or two every hour just to keep the air and humidity circulation going.
Loki Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 How about... The Cigar Sanctuary Looks nice. Rob will the cooling device be a thermoelectric type which produces less condensation?
J-ROD Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 »how's the plans comming on these? obivously the biggest one is going to be called El Presidente right:-D
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 We are in the process of designing 3 x inexpensive electronic Wine Cellar /Cigar Humidor which are both temp and humidity cotrolled under the FOH banner. The temperature range is designed to be 14 degrees Celcius ( 57.2F ) to 16 degrees Celcius ( 60.8F ) and the constant humitity range 65%-70% RH. The brief was to design three colours (Black/Dark Mahogany/Stainless Steel). Three Sizes: 595 x 600 x 840 (50 wine bottles or boxes of cigars) 595 x 600 x 1240 (100 Wine bottles or boxes of cigars) 595 x 600 x 1640 (150 Wine bottels of boxes of cigars) From the pics below, we are looking at incorporating a series of cedar drawers in the top section of each cellar for cigar singles. Digital readout and control standard. While we are in the design phase with the factory, what features do cigar connoisseurs want included? Where this will differ from a normal inexpensive wine fridge is that there will be far more emphasis on humidity. You will still be able to use part of the Cellar cave for wine shoud you wish....kill two birds with one stone. Your thoughts and recommendations please...we want to get this right! ....along with improvements, additions.....we also need a catchy name.
rumrogue Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Jeez! This thing is gonna look like a camel & weigh 5000lbs by the time you blokes are done.
OZCUBAN Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Hi Pres. Was looking into this whole Climate controlled Humidor thing. I was wondering if these prototypes have come to bear any fruit??. If not can u direct me to a thread or info that is up to date (i.e golden rules and or problems etc etc ). This seems to be a common interest of members guess thats why you were looking at own design.. living in Perth is like trying to keep cigars on the surface of the Sun Any advice you could give would be most welcome. Cheers Steve A.K.A OZ CUBAN
PigFish Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Rob, I have learned quite a lot in building these. I actually have a "DIY" project for you to post if you are interested. I just need to reconstruct it as I lost the original files in a computer melt down before I had my health melt down. I have promised another member here a pdf of the project and perhaps now that I am done ranting about people wearing H SA hats I will finish it up and send it to you. I will try to do it soon. -R
