Hurltim Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I am still a newb when it comes to aged cigars. I settled on picking up 2014-2016 boxes now and then slowly grabbing aged boxes to smoke while some of the "long term" (5yrs) fresh boxes get some time under their belt. I tend to follow Rob's recommendations for aging from the 24:24. Some folks like them older--to each his own. You can pick up aged cigars under 5 years usually for the same price as fresh ones if you look hard enough. Three of the best cigars I have had this year have had some time on them. I was even able to do some vertical tasting with the HU#2, Dip #2, HUPC, MAG 46 and a few others. The LGC MDO#4 circa early 2K was a 100 point cigar for me and an '08 Mag 50 wasn't too far behind. The HU#2 was a 2014 and was just an awesome cigar. It settled down just enough over the two years to be amazing from light to nub. Maybe they are even better older but at 2yrs they taste good enough to be in my top five. Good enough for me. I think it wouldn't be far off to say that all cigars benefit from some time down. From the ones I have smoked, the flavors are the same, but they are a bit better balanced and the last third is usually worlds better on an older cigar than a new one. JMHO. 1

So, a 2012 is considered "aged" right now. My collection is young, so I've been scooping up some "aged" boxes here and there that are really not much more cost than the current vintage. I don't want to touch my current (2015/16) inventory for 2 years. I was able to get some boxes of 2012 RA Superiores for just $10/box more than the 2016. And a 2011 code for both HDM E2 and HU Mag46 for only $2/more a piece than current pricing. The 2008 PSD4 that I got from El Presidente on the last LFTH are smoking hot (pardon the pun)! Can't wait for the next "aged" FOH sale........... Do we really need to tell them about the 2012 Superiors?

Mattb82 Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Aged are hit or miss for me as well. I'm also finding like others that I enjoy a lot of cigars somewhat younger. Monty 2 at 1-2 years is great to me. Coro at 2-3(aged can be awesome here though)? PSD4 1 year, Petit Edmundo fresh, Conny A 1 year. 1
