lpfan Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Looking for some input on the order to smoke my first CCs. I bought these as singles, so I don't know the box codes and dates but I have 2 of each of the following: Ramon Allones Specially Selected, Montecristo Petit Edmund, H Upmann Magnum 46, Bolivar Royal Corona, Vegas Robaina Unicos, Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial. Assuming they are all young, which ones will smoke best with little to no age and which ones may need to sit longer? I know I will likely get a range of responses, but I'm still interested in your thoughts.

Mattb82 Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Agree on the edmundo, the RASS will smoke well young also. I just smoked a one year old HDM EE tonight and it needs more time to me.
Fugu Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Alphabetical order... Now, seriously, you say these are your first CCs, I suspect you don't want to really wait and "age" them before smoking. You will want to know "now" what you got there. Try those singles after a little rest and acclimatization. Sequence pretty much irrelevant for this your purpose and time scale, if you ask me. 4
Popular Post PigFish Posted November 24, 2016 Popular Post Posted November 24, 2016 What Goo said! We all carry some form of predetermined attitude about cigars. Lets just call it prejudice for the sake of argument. It focuses us on what we buy and don't buy, try and don't try etcetera. I really have no desire to add to these but there is one factor that I believe affects more cigars in more ways than fanciful collector theories about aging cigars. That is water content. Cuban cigars smoke better when dryer. This is a taste opinion, no better or worse than other opinions. Give them a fair chance and allow them to firm up and 'gas-off,' so to speak, so that you are not tasting wet cigars. I think, your smoking experience should be better that way. Why get your first cigars and tie yourself down to unprovable theories about the age of any cigar? Of course there a people here and other places who believe in such theories, I have my own certainly, and am not innocent of empirical and anecdotal taste assumptions and prejudice. I was going to suggest that you smoke the cigars, the duplicates back to back so that you can get an idea maybe about cigar consistency. But how are you going to learn what a seasoned cigar smoke knows in 10 or 20 cigars? You won't! You must experience for yourself, shape your own opinions and then share those with the community. I will leave you with this. With thousands of cigars smoked over 30 years of smoking, when it comes to taste, your taste, there is no expert above you. There is no opinion worth more or less on this forum. Try as many in the catalog as you can. Try them at different levels of water content and even age. Don't get stuck in the rut of fatter is better, cheaper is worse and age means everything. You will cheat yourself living the prejudices of others. Enjoy your cigars in good health and welcome to FoH. -Piggy 12

Actually, as you might know from earlier debates, you can put me in the camp of those who love and appreciate a nicely matured cigar, with all its refined, often subtle complexity. Most, if not all share a - proven to me - special quality. Would it be about aging of those cigars I had advised the OP of a specific longer time frame, perhaps apart from two of them. But in this particular case and for his purpose, suggested to not try and age that sampler. A sampler is for sampling, no avail in waiting for several years, in particular for a newbie, and then finally discover that you had better bought two boxes three years ago... Otherwise, I am in full agreement with you Piggy (as always... ) 1
lpfan Posted November 25, 2016 Author Posted November 25, 2016 All good points, thanks for the replies. I think I misrepresented my intentions a bit though. I'm not looking to age these any significant amount of time. Just wondering if there are some sticks in my sampler that would benefit from a couple weeks or a couple months in the humidor as opposed to being smoked as soon as they have been acclimated. I know that's not much time, so it probably won't matter anyways.

PigFish, your insight is a real asset to this forum. I'm relatively new to the site but must say that your posts have been truly informative and hard to miss. 2

If you want a little bathroom reading with a much longer thought on the subject of this nature, check out the Noob Thread (in my signature below). It says many of the things you'll come to know to be true the hard way, that is if you choose the long way of discovery as we all most often do. Great to have you and Cheers!

Thanks for the heads up, that forum looks very informative. This is the kind of wisdom that I hope to gain from this forum. Just smoked the first CC from the Sampler, a RASS. It was fantastic even after only 2 weeks in the humidor after receiving them. Obviously not enough to know much about the topic, but there was a flavor of fruit that I have never experienced in a cigar before. Thanks Again! 1

Many of us wait for 30-60 days after receiving the cigars before smoking. They only continue to get better over time.
