So Im 100% new here, and looks like this place is going to be great. Im after a box of Nov. 2012 cigars. I not partial to any one brand, and Im wondering which one(s) would be worth considering? Im going to have a hard time tracking down a 2012 box let alone from Novemeber. Is there one particular smoke or Marca that does will later on? I plan on smoking one a year, so that would be well a LONG time ageing.... What ya'll think?

I don't know of any places that are currently selling anything from 2012 although the Cohiba Piramides tubos were recently sold with 2012 codes so if you are patient, you might find some eventually. That being said, IMHO, cigars are like red wine. Some do not need much aging, some, more age and some can handle a lot but not many will be worth smoking in 25 years except out of nostalgia. I have a few smokes from '98 that are still good but I find that that is not typical. My local B&M has some pre-embargo sticks from the 1930's but once you get past the history, they are not very tasty from what I have heard.

Best bet is San Christobal El Morro. Should still be late 2012 available at vendors. They were available from here until recently.

Try Ravi COH

Try Rob Fox JJ Fox.

@Elpresidente, What are your thoughts though on the aging of current production cigars for 25 years? IMHO, it would seem that many of the offerings peak by ten years or less and after twenty, they would no longer have the complexity that they previously enjoyed.

How many boxes of current offering cigars do you own that have aged for 10 years?

which ones have peaked, and which are still improving ?

Just tried to smoke an 18 y/o Epicure #2 tonight and threw it out. Lit up a 2 y/o Epicure #2 and it was much better although still young. Had a Punch that was about the same age (18 y/o) two months ago and it was smooth but lacked flavor or complexity. Had a 1999 Cohiba that I did the review on and it was amazing.

Thanks guys so it looks like maybe getting a 25 pack would be a waste of money? Would they be THAT bad tasting? I thought that if they were stored right or close to right (65/65) they would still be smokable just one dimensional? Right?

I didn't think they would be harsh or anything like when they go thru their sick period

It would be supposition on my part as to the 25 year aging potential for current production cigars.

I am a believer that you age a cigar for your own taste/palate.  For my taste, most Cuban cigars are in the zone at the 3-5 year mark. Some in the 5-8 year mark (Des Dieux etc). I don't get a significantly greater level of utility going past that period......to my taste/palate.

I have been fortunate this year to have tried an array of 20-40 year old cigars. Some were absolute brilliant cigars with all the complexity one could wish. There have been a few disappointments as well.

I am enjoying a Party Short right now. 2016. Cracker.
