Diplomatico number 4: OPM ENE 09: diplomatico et al review 2016

This is my last dip 4 from a box i bought several years ago. Like most people (all??) who have had the pleasure of smoking this cigar i am appalled that it was discontinued. A great petit corona with real character and unique although this example had some partagas spice and h upmann woody cream.

Construction is perfect. Very shiny wrapper almost oily despite a few years age now. Firm wrapper but draw is just a bit resistant. Perfect. Good smoke volume and razor sharp burn throughout.

Opened very spicy. Chilli. Capsicum. Paprika. Nose and palate.

Body of the palate is woody (think an old partners desk) and a creamy core. Not sweet cream but savoury cream if that makes sense? Greeny capsicum note throughout also.

No great evolution although the spice settled down after the first third and become creamier at the end. I know this is a silly description but there was a definite "smoke" flavour also, like bushfire.

Medium full body closer to full.

Paired with JW green which was a perfect match.

Overall one of my top 10 smokes of the year i would give it a 94!

One of my favorite Cigars to date. I share your same feelings about them discontinuing this cigar. Thanks for sharing your experience.

A moment of silence for Diplo 2's.  I had a box of 09's too and they were truly magical.  I acquired a box of 01's long after they were discontinued but they weren't even close to the 09's.
