westg Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Not sure if I really like the UFC ...but had some friends over for the last fight ...tuning in this morning for Nate and Connor to punch kick and scream again ...I will be going for Diaz , I had a laugh at McGregor throwing water bottles at Nate at the final press conference ... So if you are watching ....who you rooting for ..go Nate
topdiesel Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Diaz. He's from my neck of the woods. Gotta root for the hometown guy. Would root for him anyway. Both brothers have been fun to watch. both brawlers. 2
scap99 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Nick and Nate are damn good fighters, but I love to see them get their asses kicked. 1
westg Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 brutal, absolutely brutal. how can someone take a beating like that and keep coming... well done to Connor he held on for the win
ABQHank Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 First time I've seen a guy literally turn and run multiple times in a fight, lol. I had Nate winning 3 - 2, but once it goes to decision there's no telling what will happen. 1
dicko Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 What a war! I thought the decision was pretty fair overall. Connor did the most damage and had great takedown defence. I dont think nate will care anyway because that means we can have number 3 and they will both be getting PAIDSent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk 1
westg Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 Surely McGregor has a box of Mag 56 somewhere
Dara Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Looking forward to number 3. It will be tough for Diaz to drop weight and retain strength in his hits, McGregor had to up his weight but that doesn't translate directly into bigger hits. Obviously as an Irishman I was rooting for McGregor....sure he may be arrogant but he's making serious money for the UFC and anyone who fights him, as he is a box office draw (his dad was quite recently saying that he's on 20million per fight, other reports have put it in the 12-15million range win or lose while he still holds a championship belt). I read reports saying that he was even a factor in the UFC attracting the price it did when sold recently as his fights consistently bring in high Ppv figures since he joined the franchise He may not be the greatest fighter that is currently alive in this era, but like Ali he has the personality to be able to promote himself and the sport simultaneously while winning fights......would love to see him take on Mayweather but if it's a straight boxing contest then McGregor won't have a hope. I'm assuming his next fight will be a Aldo rematch at 155lbs and then Diaz.
Lant63 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 It was a good fight. I think the judges missed on the decision though. Diaz landed almost 2:1 on strikes...had the only takedown of the fight...and was the aggressor 4 of the 5 rounds, and controlled the octagon. McGregor ran from him on 3 separate occasions. I guess Diaz lost it because he happens to be a bleeder. i think #3 will be a waste of time...with Diaz having to drop to 155# class, he'll be at a distinct disadvantage. But, with the payouts being what they will be, neither man will be able to say no. I won't pay to watch it.I think they got it right. People do have to be cognizant of the fact that Diaz has a LOT of scar tissue and he bleeds all the time from it. From the different articles I read Diaz threw for strikes in a 5:4 reaction not 2:1. Also, McGregor landed more significant strikes and landed ~10% more that he threw. I think you also have to look at the damage done by the strikes. Those leg kicks were brutal and prevented Diaz from going after McGregor when he ran away. But, I don't think it's fair to say that he ran away. He was far better trading strikes than up against the cage. If Diaz wanted to attempt a take down when he turned his back he could have tried, but he could barely walk on that leg. McGregor carried out his fight plan almost perfectly. Diaz won the 3 and 5th. McGregor hands down won the 1st and 4th. The deciding round was the second. Diaz got knocked down twice, while he did finish the round strong I don't think it was enough. The take down at the end of the 5th secured it for Diaz but up until that point that round was close too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ABQHank Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 A lot of people don't seem to realize Nate normally fights at 155, and asked for this fight to be at 155 multiple times. Conor and the UFC wanted the first at 170 since Nate hadn't been training, and that way neither guy had to cut weight. Keeping this on at 170 keeps up this narrative that Diaz is this giant WW and Conor is going up significantly in weight. But Nate only fought a handful of times at 170, didn't do well and has been at 155 since. He said he walked into the cage at around 173. Conor's coach John Kavanaugh has said Conor walks around at 174 or so, then cuts down to 145. His boxin coach said he was 177 before that first fight. So the weight factor is negligible for these two. Conor has a far superior size, reach and strength advantage at 145 though. For comparison, Conor is the same height at the current 155 champ, but has a 5 inch reach advantage. Conor gets PPV points, and made them for the first Nate fight. I read today that this time Nate also got points but at a lower tier. Conor made $3 mill purse, estimated $11.5 mill PPV, $50k Reebok, $250k FOTN, $250k after party appearance. Nate made $2mill purse, estimated $10.5 mill PPV, $50k FOTN, $250k Reebok, $150k to appear at an after party. I don't know how accurate that is as it was on a website I had never seen before. But those numbers seem to be in line with what people like Brock Lesnar and GSP have been paid. 3
