Today I smoked a Genios (first from a PSP box, not my first however) and it made me wonder about something.  For anyone who doesn't like these what is your gripe with the Maduros? I am sure this has been tossed around many times, but I can't seem to see where anyone has said anything specific?  Frankly, I really really like them.  I admit they're different from non-Maduro Cohibas, but when they're like this one, being this young I don't think I could ask for much more.

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION:. I am looking for specific reasons people don't like them, like one member in another post wrote: "Too one dimensional."  Thanks!

Can't remember seeing a great deal of hate in general regarding the Cohiba Maduro series. They're certainly not for everyone, but the ones I've had I've enjoyed. I've read some others have had some negative reviews but I think on the whole they're fairy well-received and have been from their introduction. I do believe HSA is putting some effort into these.

The other Maduro line is another story (Partagas Maduro No. 1.) This cigar has received mixed reviews across the board. I personally have not had one and probably won't in the near term based on the reviews and the price premium. I don't believe HSA is putting the same effort into these as the Cohiba Maduro line.

My gripe is that if i want a maduro flavour profile i can get that from a padron 2000 which is a 5th of the price of cohiba maduro.

That said i have enjoyed the cohiba maduros ive tried. So to answer your question 'price' and many better options such as normal cohibas! My 2c only of course.

Yes, I concur in regards to the Cohiba Maduro 5 line being very different to the standard Linea Clasica or Linea 1492 series cigars. I empathise with anyone who has reservations about cost, but for me, I don't mind as they are a great change-of-pace cigar.

Cohiba Maduro is quite a nice smoke; it's just so many people do that kind of smoke better, and and at a much cheaper price.

It's a very pleasant maduro, it's just unremarkable. For the price, I expect remarkable.

Have to say, one of the areas where NCs are superior to CCs IMHO is maduros.  Cuba just doesn't seem to have the hang of them.

I totally agree.  When I want a maduro (which is quite often) it's always NC and almost always a Padron.

I've got some NC left in the humidor, and most of those are maduros from Padron and Fuente.

I must say, I did enjoy the Partagas Maduro 1 I smoked from the Christmas Sampler.  The next time they pass through 24:24, I might pick up a box.

looking at 2014 or younger box dates I see how others would side with NC's for value/smoking experience for Maduros but good boxes of 2009/10 Maduro 5's I have offer a real multidimensional experience that can't be found anywhere else for me.  My 2 cents has been that although the wrapper seems more aged, the rest of the cigar takes time, more so with these, to create that depth.  I too picked up the '14 then '15 offers when good quality and find them very similar young to the '09/'10's smoking so beautifully now.

I have never tried one and this is purely price driven.  They may be great, but I'm slowly trying to build my collection and I could easily get two boxes of something else for what a single box of these go for.
