Popular Post IcedCanuck Posted May 24, 2016 Popular Post Posted May 24, 2016 H.Upmann Connoisseur A LUB DIC 13 I decided to see how these have been progressing. I was fortunate enough to pick up two boxes a couple years ago in Havana. Good construction, massive band, cold smell of rich tobacco, leather, almost something sweet. Spelling mistake on box and bands. Clipped, good draw not an air tunnel but maybe a tad tighter then I would like. We'll see if it opens up a bit as it burns. Draw tastes of new leather. Paired with mojito. Smokes very well, creamy, loads of cream, a bit of cedar. No pepper at all. Very smooth and dare I say refined. The smoke rolls right off the tongue. Only a few centimetres in and this cigar is already blowing my mind. 1/3 Still very creamy, a little more cedar, and A touch of pepper. The sweetness is no longer present in the cream. Good burn, no corrections needed as of yet. Little hints of earthly notes. 2/3 Cream cream and more cream. More earthly notes. Leather is back but now more like old leather. Slightly more pepper but really just enough to remind you it's there. This cigar is smoking fantastically ... it's magnificent!!! 3/3 The smoke feels velvety in my mouth as it spirals off my tongue. A minor burn correction was made. Still extremely creamy which is surprising to me this far into the cigar. A little more white pepper but not enough to be offensive. Leather is much more pronounced towards the end. Final thoughts This cigar is enjoyable in epic proportions. No matter how many boxes I have of these it is not enough. I cannot say enough good things about this cigar. It made me forget about the mojito sitting next to the ashtray. This cigar is refined beyond its age. It is rare for me to want to fire up another cigar of its ilk back to back but this cigar definitely makes me want to. If you haven't tried one yet I strongly urge you to do so. I may have to make the Connoisseur A a new staple in my humidor. The aftermath 11
stevem Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I just picked up a Connie A this weekend, looking forward to it once the weather improves
IcedCanuck Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Such a good cigar, to be honest I am already looking forward to my next one!

jimsta10 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Yep..you know the cigar is legit if there's a spelling mistake. Great review mate. 1
MrGTO Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I just had one last week. I was a little disappointed because the draw was not very good. The taste was there but I had to work for the smoke. With a cigar that big it will wear you out. I'm hoping it was just random. Up until this point I have never had a problem with one. I'm still a fan!
Ramrod918 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Have the same box code in my humidor, very great cigar indeed.
westg Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Nice review thanks for sharing ...have not had one in a while will have to revisit .
TheMonk Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Very nice review, it is indeed a great smoke, albeit a proportionally expensive one as well.

Unless you are lucky enough to be in Cuba and find yourself a box they are a bid on the higher price end. I suppose sometimes if you want to play ya gotta pay.

A great smoke, but a pretty expensive one! That is a cigar I was very much looking forward to sampling. H.Upmann has a special place in my heart especially their LEs. I was rather disappointed when I saw what the boxes were selling for but not terribly surprised as it seems to be the trend as of late. It is unfortunately priced beyond what I'll pay; thankfully there are lots of other cigars I have yet to try and I have no shortage in my personal stash.
Zedman05 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Very good cigar with such young age. I too bought a couple boxes early, and have since put them away, but the last one I had a couple months ago was amazing. They are developing nicely. They are a multi box purchase every time I buy now. I will take these and the Sir Winnies to a desert island any day. Cigar F^iend 2

Had a decent day yesterday so decided to light it up yesterday. Had to pair it with a Tree Brewing Vertical Winter Ale after the snow. Lots of Leather and cedar as mentioned by OP, having purchased from local B&M mine was closer to 70%RH which, given stronger willpower, I would have rested to 65%. There was a creaminess, more like clotted cream rather than coffee cream if that resonates with anyone? Cedar & light pepper were drier on the palate, this cigar was from a MAR 2014 box, ash held on until about halfway point. Some unevenness with the burn closer to the band but with a cigar like this it kept delivering until I couldn't hold onto any longer. 94pt for me, remained just under medium throughout, 1hour 50min burn time for me. This was my first H. Upmann and I will be buying again. 1
El Presidente Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Upmann really haven't put their foot wrong as of late.
luv2fly Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I am really enjoying these as of late. I may have to smoke one at the Memorial Day Pool Party! Just bringing one so the moochers don't deplete my supply. And I agree with Rob, I can't remember the last "bad"Upmann I had.
