I've spent some time in the Netherlands this year and have seriously become addicted to salmiak.

For those that haven't heard of this it's liquorice with ammonium Chloride added which adds a salty taste. It varies in strength and the stronger stuff basically fills your nose with ammonia as your eating it.

Sounds gross I know but the more I've eaten the more I love the stuff. There's something sadistically enjoyable about the strong taste, the ammonia hit through the nose and the sweetness from the liquorice.

Anyone else have any experience with it?

Oh yes, my mother is from the Netherlands and I have been enjoying salmiak for decades now. Whenever I go visit her I empty her stash of salmiak!

I think it's the national candy in Finland lol.

I tried a piece once. Didn't realize how different it was from what we call licorice in the US.

Unfortunately, it was such a shock to my brain because it didn't taste like I thought it would taste like that I didn't enjoy it.

Addict here, too. Problem, once you start you can't stop. Standard staple when driving through Denmark...

Looks good fugu, I've found a specialist liquorice shop online here in the UK which has all sorts of different types. Putting those on my list to try f, the powder has sold me.

I like it but have not had it for ages... These days I go for the soft and sweet stuff.
