Are they produced in Cuba or imported? All of them? And the labels, seals?

I think that if they were made in Cuba we would see better counterfeits but import thousands of empty boxes does not sound cheap. Maybe just assembled in Cuba?

Do you know, guys?

Made at the factory AFAIK.

I toured the La Corona factory in Havana in March 2016. They showed us this room where they were applying all the labels to boxes so it appears that at least some assembly is done in the factories.

Second to last photo shows the box code stamped prior to the boxes being finished.

Well that's a game changer lolololol.

I saw that too.

I would guess that the boxes are moved to the next room and filled very soon after, maybe even the same day. The box date does not specify a particular day.

No way. The guy on craigs list told me his mom's cousin's step grand daughter pulls them of the line after they are filled but before they get the date stamp. That's how you know they are fresh and missing the stamp. Clearly the people in these photos didn't get the memo. nyah.gif

Awesome pictures and great info!

Funny you mention that.

As we were leaving this room I saw a guy sanding off the box code stamp from the bottom of boxes!

Standing there just scrubbing away at it with sandpaper until the ink disappeared, then brush off the dusting and do another box.

Wish I had taken a photo but it felt like an awkward moment do to so.

Labour is cheap on the island, so why should they dearly import what could be done on the island. Perhaps another issue with special boxes, like the Rs and GRs.

That's odd, indeed!

Box recycling?

Perhaps those were the ones where they stored all the Hoyo Anejados, before they were repacked...jester.gif

Nothing goes to waste in Cuba. Absolutely nothing. Box, ribbons and even old bands will be recycled.

Are the actual boxes made in Cuba or just assembled there?

Good point. I can see empty boxes from shops in Cuba going back into the rotation. Nothing wrong with that IMHO.
