Overproof Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Such a big loss to the music industry and hip-hop, he was a NY originator. So many of us grew up listening to Tribe Called Quest. RIP to the 5ft Assassin I'll leave you with one of my favorite Tribe jams, Electric Relaxation 2
MrGTO Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Heard about that on NPR today. Takes me back to when rap was actually good. 3
Merovius Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I still remember when the critically acclaimed Beats, Rhymes and Life was nominated for multiple Grammys. You could almost feel Phifes struggle in the recent documentary, name is escaping me atm. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
dinoeggs Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Definitely glad I grew up around that golden age of Rap.

wabashcr Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I also came of age listening to Tribe. I still enjoy a lot of hip hop, even some of the contemporary stuff. But nobody can match Tribe's combination of beats, rhymes and lyrics. Q and Phife both had such a smooth flow, and they used their medium to express socially aware, meaningful ideas. When I think of hip hop or rap as art, Tribe is the pinnacle. 1
mcease022 Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I grew up with Tribe, Gang Starr, EPMD, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, and other 90's great hip hop. I evolved and listen to a wide variety of music, but hip hop back then was meaningful as Prominentes said. The new rap/hip hop can't compare. RIP Phife Dawg
Merovius Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Back when people actually rapped about their hood, culture, the way things were and how they could be changed and the art of flow and storytelling, instead of how many cars they had in their driveway and how much ice they had on their wrist.
habanolover Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Phife will be greatly missed. I hated when the very talented group broke up. As stated, a very unique combination of the best beats/ flow/ lyrics in the hip hop game RIP Phife
NicPac Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Sad to see such a talent pass. I agree with the above, takes me back to when hiphop was good. Much more pure. Before the insane money ruined it.
DropTopDee Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Glad to see love for hip hop here! And there is great hip hop today just turn your radio off 2
Phillys Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 "Poor excuse money please I get loose off of orange juice, perfectly minute maid cause that's exactly what it takes" Phife will be greatly missed.
