kuma
Heading for the Cote D' Azur (Riviera) Nice and many small towns along the coast to Italy. Just wondering if the Frence have any RE's worth hunting down. I know a cigar shop if Nice "Flamme & Fumee which is pretty good. Has anyone on this blog ever smoked any of these; Vegas Robain - Petit Robusto released 2012 / Fonseca - Amatur Robusto Extra 2011 release / Quai d' Orsay - Robusto Embajador Petit Robusto. Thanks
Smallclub
You probably won't find the Robusto Embajador but – if you're lucky – the Robusto Diplomatico, which is good but a bit too much "predictable" (if that makes sense). The Fonseca Amateur was a good surprise: it's much better than anything from the Fonseca line. Very creamy. Recommended.
kuma
Thank you small club for that info. I'm also heading over the border to Italy (San Remo / Ventt'imigila) which are very small towns but San Remo is very wealithy so they may have some of the famous Italian RE's. I leave in two weeks straight shot from NY JFK to Nice airport. Wanted to get there before the F1 race (Monaco), French Open (Paris) and Cannes Film fest. Place gets crazy during the months of late April and all of May and then into the summer months. Take care and thanks again for the info.
SokaKiel
I don't want to destroy your hopes but I doubt you'll find much in San Remo or Ventimiglia! Ventimiglia is famous for cheap booze and cigarettes (for the French that is) and I've seen some horrendous cigar storage there three years ago. San Remo has seen his heydays more like 30 years ago, I've been there for the first time ten years ago and had to go kind of every other year since then for work and it hasn't changed a bit. I just visited a few weeks ago and it still has the typical charm of an Italian 80's beach town with lots of historic building thrown in. No comments on 'Flame et fume', I used to go to the Davidoff shop in Monaco or the one by the Capitanerie at the port of Saint Tropez. Both have average storage conditions and you'll find some moody sticks but I've always liked the choice and service. Good enough for some holiday stock up anyways. Enjoy the south of France! I'll be back in La Ciotat further to the west in two weeks. Looking forward to the spring, it's been fairly cold down there when I left early February. kuma
Thanks SokaKiel. Only making a day trip to San Remo from Menton where I'll be calling home for about 9 days. Also going to explore some of the towns above the Riviera where there are some arts / craft makers there.
avitus
By the way, there is a small but very nice cigar shop in Menton, I bought several El Rey del Mundo Petit Compania last summer there. There is actually a post here about this shop http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=115046&p=403174

Smallclub
Don't buy the Quai D'orsay regionals...I bought 5 haven't liked any of them. The fact that you haven't liked them doesn't make them bad cigars. Actually I think they are (the 3 of them) great mild/medium cigars. Now if your idea of a habano is a fresh RASS or RyJ Caza, you should avoid anything Quai d'Orsay.
