danielmgibbs Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Hi folks The wife and I are considering Cuba this year for our summer hols with our 4 year old daughter Mia. Can anyone point me to a good thread with recommendations for time of year to go, hotels, must see/do things. I'm sure there are tons of good threads on his already. Not sure I'll be able to sell her on staying in Vuelta Abajo ? A beach is probably a must for Mia. Happy to go all inclusive if it makes sense but open to all suggestions Cheers I advance Dan
treberty Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I have 3 young kids and we all went to Varadero last November (Grand Memories). It was alright - food was above average. If you'd rather go to Havana and still have access to a beach, I would suggest Playa del Este - about 20km outside of Havana. There's a few 3* all-inclusive resorts that offer a free shuttle service to Havana. I went to the Atlantico twice and Club Arenal once - all times pre-kids. Hotels are a bit tired in that area, food was not as good as in Varadero, beach is not as nice either. BUT you are close to Havana - which might not be that interesting for a 4 yo. My next trip with the family would be in Cayo Santa Maria, probably a Melia or the Memories. Heard great things about the resorts there. There you go!
stogieluver Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 My wife and I stayed a couple of nights at the Sol Cayo Santa Maria about three years ago. By Cuban standards, it was very nice. Nice pool area, very nice beach. Accommodations were decent, probably a 5* by Cuban standards. Food was pretty good.
danielmgibbs Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 Thanks guys. appreciate the advice! best Dan
riazp Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Summer is incredibly humid in Cuba. I'd suggest to go no later than may...june july august its just unpleastly humid and hot...well that my opinion...Other than that, you want to find a 4.5-5 star resort in VRA would be your best bet. From there you can do a day trip to Havana if you are inclined to do so. That would probably be the best bet for a first time in Cuba with the family. 1

For sure as suggested, may be to hot to enjoy and the resorts are not really at 100% in the summer, off season really.
