Easttide Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 No expert here. Had these pop up in a trade. I've never seen a box code that was written in that font or linearly like that? Box hasn't been open so no pics of bands. I'm not trading for them as I'm not certain if they have been stored properly, just curious. Any help would be appreciated!
mgravito Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Fake. The box date stamp is the immediate dead giveaway. 1
RijkdeGooier Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 The box would raise a lot of red flags for me
SCgarman Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Yup. Fake. Even the font in Habanos stamp is wrong.
Smallclub Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Fake. The PEL factory code was used between 1999 and 2003. "PEL MAR12" never existed.
KRunch61 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Now that u know they're fakes, how about sharing a pic of the cigars? Curious as to what the bands look like. Also, dissect a stick and see what the filler looks like. Pics of that would be interesting, too. Sorry for the trade.

I haven't been buying Cubans for that long and it looked fishy to me immediately, hence the post. They are still wrapped in cellophane and I mentioned to the guy (after cluing him in) that he should open them up to see what they look like but that's not my call. Thanks for the help to everyone that replied!
stogieluver Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Fake. Oddly, the first thing that caught my eye was the pristine condition of the box and especially the head on that nail. The font on the back is definitely wrong, also. To most all but the most informed buyer, this box would not raise any suspicion; to the contrary. These counterfeiters are really getting good. I think they're learning from the "is this fake" posts on legitimate CC forums and the guy on Instagram who points out the minute details of the counterfeits. These things are going to absolutely flood the U. S. market when the embargo is lifted. They already are, I suspect. 1

That doesn't bode well, in particular, if that stamp had been done correctly, which isn't that big of an issue technically. Would be interesting to learn more about the warranty seal. How does the code turn out at the HSA check?
Trevor2118 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 They are still wrapped in cellophane ...... How many other of your boxes were wrapped in cellophane? 1
Alien13 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 To me, the first thing that looked out of place was that box code. It's interesting to see what other telltale signs there are to lookout for. How many other of your boxes were wrapped in cellophane? There are some international suppliers that wrap their boxes in Cello to try and minimize the amount of humidity lost while in transit, but you're right in that it is something else to be careful of, in a sort of "wrap it in Cello so the buyer can't get a look at the cigars" way.
wabashcr Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Odd to me that someone would go to painstaking efforts to make sure so many small details were correctly copied, then whiff so badly on the box code stamp. That should be among the easiest parts to get right, I'd think. 1

That should be among the easiest parts to get right, I'd think. Happens time and time again. We recently showed a box of H. Upmann Monarch Tubos that was purchased by a member from Costa Rica. The big giveaway was that the box stamp was 4 years after the cigars were discontinued
SCgarman Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 I happen to belong to a Rolex watch forum based in Oz. Some folks become members so they can post pics of their "replica Submariners" and see if they can pass the authenticity test. Just like CC's, the details always tell the real deal from the fake junk.
Easttide Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 How many other of your boxes were wrapped in cellophane? Re-read the post. This isn't my box.
Easttide Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Another interesting thing is the UPC code pulled up as a box of Monte Edmundos. 1
