As the title suggests, I think here in Oz, we get it pretty tough on many things and they most often involve the simpler, finer pleasures in life such as Tobacco et al.

I often post many things on the stuff thread, I often post a lot on beef jerky that our brothers in the States seem to get a myriad of choices of yet over here, they seem to peddle off S**t that look more like plastic pieces versus nice meat.

I don't know, but the kids and I love Jerky and Biltong. The problem is, is that there isn't many "Great Beef Jerky" to get here in Oz. I tend to stick to and love Biltong from Protea foods, but other than that, I myself haven't found anything nice.

So... Has anyone else here in Australia found anything great to recommend?

It really sux that we can't even import Jerky over from the states.

Many thanks in advance. peace.gif

I was going to say Protea foods is the best of the packaged stuff. I'm lucky as perth has a lot of South African immigrants (particularly around my area) so we have a few specialist south African stores that do their own biltong (Mufasa deli seems to be the supplier in the main) they may post stuff

Curious, why can't beef jerky be imported from the states?

Theres a South African guy up here who owns a small smoko shack in one of our industrial areas

He makes a phenomenal biltong.

I usually buy a ton of it before a big hunting trip away and almost live off the stuff

As for packaged stuff, I cant help you, but you can buy a Dehydrator these days for relatively cheap and the internet has a ton great recipes for jerky and biltong

Thanks to all who have posted, really appreciate it. :)

So hard to buy anything that doesn't look like plastic square pieces. Jack Links your jerky is this!

It's easy to make at home and better than anything you can buy (half the price too). As polarbear said "buy a dehydrator". I have been using the Alton Brown recipe for years (I add a few packets of Splenda to increase the sweet notes). Try it and see.
